I went to play pinball, some of these guys ended up as pinballs!
It's a rare thing that I'm able to catch a GCW show, being that they usually run in eastern Missouri. This particular weekend I went south for the Southern Illinois Pinball & Arcade show, which happened to be going on the same weekend as this show, so I hit the road and traveled south. Luckily the pinball show was a two day event, so I could get away and walk in to see this show.
Live from the YMCA in Mt. Vernon, IL. Your ref is Kevin Kennedy. Steven Kennedy's little brother??? Attendance was like 80-90. Still haven’t cracked the three digit barrier here yet. Way late with this, been busy.
KC Karrington w/ Tiffney LaFane vs. Dorian Victor - Dorian is making his initial run in GCW as he's been primarily doing LWA shows. KC gets overpowered at the start and Dorian clobbers him with a string of blows and a BIG BOOT for two. KC with a rake, rollup for two. KC with a hard chop, but gets tossed off, backbreaker Victor gets two. KC with a drop toe hold into the rope, snap mare, dropkick to the back for two. Neckbreaker KC gets two. KC with a few blows and a rear headlock, but gets shoved off and clotheslined by Dorian. Slam, legdrop for two. Victor eats a boot, KC dives on him but gets spinebustered down fro two. KC with a legsweep for two, trips Dorian with a leapfrog Victor appears to have wrecked his leg. KC goes after it, half crab, Victor powers out, slams him, but does a backbreaker on his sore leg for two. Whoops. Victor fireman’s carry is escaped, forward Russian legsweep by KC gets the win. Decent open.
WINNER: KC Karrington pin -> 10:35 mins. **¾
The ring announcer says that Dingo won the title last night, but did some strange things last night...like turn heel. And it's an interview. Dingo don't care about the importance of anything other than him. He orders some overweight cameraman to get in the ring with a camera. He then proceeds to brag about his accolades, that he's had to go to other feds to earn the feather in the cap and beat former NWA World Champion AJ Styles and calls me in particular a douche bag. WTF? I'm glad he didn't call me by name. Dingo tells someone to get off their phone and look at him. Someone told him he had to go to other feds and that Kory Twist would ride his coattails. My sign: "No one stole your spotlight, QUIT WHINING!" He proceeds to say he was the one who told him a long laundry list of things and that person is Sadie Blaze. Okay, I wouldn't be seeking THAT guy's advice on anything. Blaze comes out with his boys and says he's not to be toyed with. He wants Cameron Cage to know there's no room at the top of the fed for him, and despite reeking havoc with him for a year, it's his fate now. Dingo proceeds to rant some more about Kory Twist, and that Twist is paying too much attention to family instead of wrestling. Dingo says a bunch of RETARDED things, and Twist LUNGES for Dingo! But Blaze's goons are all around Dingo and it's a five on one beatdown! Dingo with a LOW BLOW and PILEDRIVER! Cameron Cage runs out with a chair and the heels run off, but the damage was done. Blaze challenges Cage to wrestle one of his men, get a partner...it's a tag against Melvin Talent & Dingo. They leave, Cage helps Twist up but he's quite banged up.
GCW Lightheavyweight Championship - Man vs. Woman
(c)Jackal vs. Rebecca Raze - Raze is fresh off of being defeated for the tag titles, having been shoved off the top rope to the bare floor, and narrowly avoiding serious injury. Alas, if MsChif couldn’t take Jackal’s belt, Raze is gonna have a tough time taking it. I just realized Jackal is UNDER five feet tall, but too tall to join Micro Wrestling Federation. Raze is just slightly taller. They switch around until Raze gets a neckbreaker for two. Raze with a backbreaker stretch until Jackal gets a headlock. Side suplex, misses the followups, but gets a double underhook rib breaker. Jackal tries a springboard senton but MISSED. Enzuigiri attempt by Jackal is ducked, Raze goes to a kneeling bow and arrow, Jackal pokes his way out. Headbutt to the back gets two. Snap suplex by Jackal gets two. Chops traded, Raze spinning neckbreaker for two. Jackal with a jawbreaker, armtrap suplex by Jackal is either blocked or blown…whoops. Bulldog attempt is blocked, Raze with a shove, DDT gets two. Jackal headbutts her belly, kneedrops, back splash, running bulldog from the middle rope and that gets the pin.
WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Jackal pin -> 9:35 mins. **
Dice vs. Shorty Biggs – Dice jumps him and tosses him out, and shoves him into the post. Dive from the apron is caught and Biggs eats post. The brawl goes back in the ring, Biggs with a one foot dropkick, leg clothesline gets two. Armbar takedown gets two. Dice outslugs Biggs and does a ONE HAND cover for two. Dice maintains control, Biggs manages a second rope bulldog, goes up, flying elbowdrop gets two. The ref is in peril, Dice with a LOW BLOW, rolling backsplash in the corner and that gets the pin. Pretty much a brawler match, not the kind of match I usually go for.
WINNER: Dice pin -> 9:15 mins. *½
Loser Leaves Town
Jimmy Charisma vs. Bryan Monterro - NO ONE HONORS LOSER LEAVES TOWN! And yes, I was holding that up as a sign. And oh crap, Charisma has Talent, Blaze and Cabal with him. Great, lots of opportunity for cheating like mad. Slugfest to start and Jim takes off, suplex is blocked, Bryan punts him, kneedrop through the ropes, cobra clutch, rollup gets one. Stiff forearm by Bryan, fight spills outside, side suplex gets two. Bryan posts the arm, Cabal accidently hits Talent…whoops. Jimmy with a backdrop for two. Charisma dumps Monterro, Bryan has Charisma on the post, Talnet and Cabal botch some interference, Monterro throws Charisma into a sign, toss in for two. Monterro headlock, back body drop Jimmy gets two. Cabal hits on Monterro, ref is tied up elsewhere with Blaze, Charisma has Monterro, whip reverse cartwheel backsplash, boot wipe, Monterro running knee to the face! Monterro yanks Charisma out of the corner for two. Jimmy calls for Cabal on the ropes, Monterro reverses a head slam into his boot, Bryan dropkicks Cabal off, botched pickup results in a rollup for one, death valley driver Monterro gets the pin! Jimmy Charisma is out of GCW! For now anyway...he'll be back, even if he's moving outta state, CAUSE NO ONE HONORS LOSER LEAVES TOWN!
WINNER: Bryan Monterro pin -> 10:55 mins. ***
Blaze just lost his tag team, and his men all disown Charisma as he's in a state of total disbelief.
Sean Vincent vs. Evan Petrie - Well Evan has a tag belt, and teases Sean with it. Sean slaps him in the butt and does a reverse armdrag. Floatover, and the ref forgets to count. Geez wake up dude! Sean is annoyed. Sean with a sunset gets two, Evan gets Sean to chase him into a stompdown, suplex and a one foot cover gets ONE. Leghook chinlock, neck yank, surfboard and rear chinlock by Evan, Sean breaks out and hits a spinning heel kick for two. Evan yanks Sean into the corner, running knee, camel clutch through the ropes…which he has to release. Sean reverses a suplex, but Evan with a fisherman’s suplex. Second rope sunset flip gets two. Sean tries to moonsault on Evan but misses, no count and Sean slaps the ref. Errr…what’s up here? Evan with a spinebuster for two. Sean dodges Evan, guillotine legdrop gets two. Evan blocks a rollup, kneeling ab stretch by Evan, but Sean rolls him for the pin. Weird match that thankfully was still entertaining with the ref having mental lapses.
WINNER: Sean Vincent pin -> 9:30 mins. ***¼
Steven Kennedy vs. Trent Stone – SSK attacks but Trent trios him and the YOU SUCK chants ring out at Kennedy…MISTER Kennedy. Stone works the arm and hits a fallaway slam for two. SSK with a rake and chops, a run up kick in the corner, suplex gets ONE. Spinning leg neckbreaker against the back of the neck gets two. SSK wears him down some, poses, then hits a neckbreaker for two. He tries a springboard moonsault but gets nothing but mat, Stone with a SPEAR gets two. SSK loses a slugfest because an F5 follows and it’s over! Match of the evening.
WINNER: Trent Stone pin -> 9:30 mins. ***½
GCW Heavyweight Champ Dingo & Melvin Talent vs. Cameron Cage & Sean Vincent - Dingo has the mike and runs his mouth saying Cage doesn't have a partner, but Cage tells the ring announcer who it is and points to the entrance as the crowd chants Dingo has a boyfriend. Cage's tag partner is not Kory Twist, it's Sean doing double duty! Cabal is wearing Jimmy Chrisma's red shirt! Odd couple Cabal and Talent would be. Blaze has a chair and Dingo is close to getting in a fight with a ringside fan. Cage and Talent start off, double teaming on Melvin’s arm, suplex, slam, elbow gets two. Cage in, double elbow, Sean in, back body drop gets one. They switch in and out dominating Talent with impact moves until he finally tags Dingo. But he fares no better, double suplex gets two, spinebuster by Sean gets two, Cage in and its double chops and a poke for two. Cage tosses him, fakes a charge, but Sean with a tumble dive onto the baddies. Back in, Dingo finally gets an inverted atomic drop, Russian legsweep for two. Tag Talent, but gets spun heel kicked and tags Dingo quick. Dingo with a dropkick for two. Half camel clutch, then a brainbuster gets two. Vincent gets hung in the corner by Talent, Dingo with a baseball slide dropkick. Talent back in and works the neck but gets fallaway slammed, Vincent with the split leg moonsault gets two that Dingo breaks up. Cage goes after Dingo, Cabal jumps in and throws down Vincent as the ref is tied up, tag Dingo and gets two. Whip to the ropes and it's a clothesline on Vincent, tag Cage and Talent. Cage dropkicks Dingo out, powerslam on Talent, Dingo has a chair! Cage backbreaker on Talent, goes for the sharpshooter, Blaze on the apron, Dingo tries to enter with the chair, elbow on the back of Talent, Dingo BOOTS Vincent and dropkicks him out. Talent tries to leave, Cage pulls Talent back in, Blaze and Dingo plot something, another weapon put in the corner, Vincent is down on the floor, the ref is not doing much, Dingo THROWS the chair at Cage's head and KO's Cage and gets the pin! ARRGH! Whatta cheap shot!
WINNERS: Dingo & Melvin Talent pin -> 16:40 mins. ***
Blaze has the mike again, anything they can bring they can bring tenfold. Cage gets the mike, says after he was seeing stars, he was thinking for his return match for the title that it should be a tables, ladders and chairs match! And we're out for the night.
The Verdict: Pretty much a lower key show than the last one that took place down here. They’re heavily promoting their supercard during Thanksgiving weekend, and I’ll happen to be down there for the occasion while feasting on turkey with the folks. And MsChif will be back! Better choose my seat carefully to avoid the brawls among the audience.
