The Rap Sheet - from the Mad Conservative
Supreme League of Wrestling
10/28/2K6 - Mattoon, IL

Beginnings are always rough...

Views expressed by MCC are solely his own, and don't reflect the views of blah blah blah blah...you should know the drill by now. Direct all complaints directly to me and don't bother anyone else!

Another new fed to go with the collection of about forty others in this state, where will it ever end? Anyway, this show is in Mattoon, which is quite a drive out there. Basically once you get past Decatur you have to drive two lanes the rest of the way, unless you want to drive an extra hour out of your way to Champaign. The promoter was begging me to come to this event, so why not, I was being comp'ed since I was burning up a lotta gas.

Live from the Burgess-Osbourne Auditorium in Mattoon, IL. Your ring announcer is Jake Johnstone. And geez, I walk in the door about 15 minutes before the show was officially to start, and they're introducing a match. Geez, I'm hardly settled in and already am scrambling for the journalistic tools.

Triple Threat Match
Andy Roberts vs. Cyclone vs. Black Dragon - Dunno who Cyclone is still, newbie I saw debuting in GAW's Royal Rumble. Andy Roberts is the NGW PC Champ. Well the masked men attack Andy and he bails. Cyclone and Dragon lock up, some fans in the front row are heckling Roberts a lot. Dragon takes him down and drops an elbow for two. Roberts is camping outside, Dragon chops Cyclone, knee to the gut, forward slam, goes up, splash off the top gets two...broken up. Roberts tosses Cyclone out, elbows Dragon for two. Roberts with a headbutt, spinning heel kick gets two. Roberts chains suplexes, ending with a bridge for two. Andy's back looks strained. Iron claw by Dragon, legsweep gets two...broken up. SUPERKICK by Andy on Cyclone and gets the pin. Not much there, but better than what follows...and I dunno why they made this a "dark match".

WINNER: Andy Roberts pin -> 4:15 mins. *½

Now they start with the real opening of the show and the rules, and run through the lineup. Your commentary team is Adam McGee & EZ St. Michel. Jake Johnstone points to the heavyweight belt hanging over the ring.

Jack Maverick & Shawn Clarion vs. CCW Tri-State Champ Colton Cash & Dennis Devine - Hmmm...odd pairups here. Cash and TNT start. Cash throws him, TNT with a poke, drop toe hold Cash, side suplex TNT, shoulderblock Cash. Devine in, hits a flying headscissors and TNT bails. Devine gets impatient and gets stomped chasing him in, suplex blocked, Devine gets a DDT, but TNT gets a full nelson and low blows Devine. Maverick and Clarion tag in and out hitting suplexes on Devine, and shoves the ref after a two count! Clarion in, Dennis hits a clothesline and the heels bail out. Dennis doesn’t tag out, and it’s a confused mess as everything stops for a good minute, what’s going on here? They stall until Devine swings at Maverick who drops down and Clarion nails him but stupidly tosses him into Cash’s corner. Devine STILL doesn’t tag out, Devine drop kicks Clarion in the back, goes out and tosses Maverick in the ring but gets LOW BLOWED by Clarion. Double whip, but double clothesline by Devine and he FINALLY tags Colton Cash in. Clotheslines on everyone, suplex on Maverick, legdrop, backbreaker, gut buster, and a toss lungblower by Cash gets two. Maverick with ANOTHER LOW BLOW, puts Cash on the top rope, but Cash sunset flips him down for two. Clarion and Devine slug it out on the floor, Clarion posts Devine, goes after Cash but gets clotheslined, Cash with a double underhook piledriver and gets the pin. Match was a clusterfrick, guys seemed lost and indecisive here with the long pause in the middle, which really should had turned the match toward the finish making it go a lot longer than it should had.

WINNERS: Colton Cash & Dennis Devine pin -> 15:20 mins. ½*

Brandon Keith vs. “Dark Dragon” Drake – Well BK seems to have parted ways with NBWA over the BK Shannon name, which he hated. Drake split from NMW to go to 3CW, but 3CW is dead in the water with no towboat in sight. Drake hits the trio first, but Keith does a bad suplex and a scary looking clothesline. Oh cripes! Drake’s up though, and hits a splash in the corner, DDT, knee strike gets two. They slug it out, Keith with an elbow in the corner, goes up, and is WAY off on the splash. Drake with a choke, powerslam gets two. Piledriver is blocked, Keith with a shoulderblock, charge to the corner missed, legdrop Drake gets two. Sunset Keith, he slugs him and does a rollup for three. Keith just didn’t account for himself very well here.

WINNER: Brandon Keith pin -> 6 mins. *

Hardcore KC is here, he’s complaining about being booked to show up but only getting a t-shirt out of the deal and no match. Geez, why didn’t he just demand the sixth slot in the six-way ladder match for the heavyweight title? Well that would be too logical, because I’m the smark and not the booker. He throws down the shirt and has a security guy pick it up, well he stomps him down…well Jewels Vega runs to the ring to break it up. Now Johnathan Scott is here, apparently he’s “Commissioner Talent” and he makes a match between KC and Vega. Some people scream “chicken****”…geez, this is a family show people!

Issan Hadeev vs. Cowboy Jef Harris – Well Mohammad Hassan was practically run out of the WWE by UPN, so Hadeev took over his gimmick and music. Harris spells his first name with ONE F. This is a New Breed match here. Issan wristlock takedown, Harris floats over, dropkick and Hadeev bails. Harris gets yanked out however and beaten down, toss in, suplex two. Atomic drop and spinebuster, fallaway slam, legdrop gets two. Harris tries a face slam but releases way early and botches it. Harris with a frogsplash gets two. Harris with a baseball slide dropkick, and THAT spot is blown…injuring his own leg in the process. Harris throws Issan into the post, and into a chair, toss in gets two. Harris works Issan’s knee, scissors the leg, then turns it into a side figure four. Harris does a dropkick…LOW, cause his leg is wrecked. He’s back to the figure four, Hadeev gets out, jawbreaker, whip to the corner and Issan drives the knee into the back. German suplex gets two. Harris with a Russian leg sweep but Issan locks in the camel clutch and Harris taps. Harris hobbles out of the ring and he wasn’t moving around too good after the show.

WINNER: Issan Hadeev submission -> 9:35 mins. *¾

SLW Tag Team Championship – Triple Threat
NWC Tag Champs The Animals – George Jr. & 3rd vs. Eric Ruffington & Blake Steel w/ pNut vs. Geek Council – Dewey Dawson & Daxter Schwartz – Geez where’s Gilbert Lewis? Daxter looks well, more like a bum than a nerd. I had NO clue who he was, but found out later it was someone I have seen before just under a different name and gimmick…so the change in appearance fooled me. pNut is now using the name “Nikki Knight”. Dewey is half of the NGW tag champs, but his regular partner wasn’t available, and trips entering the ring. The Animals of course, are looking for secondary gold. Dewey and Blake start. Dewey throws him down, Ruff gets backdropped, Dewey headbutt, tag Dex and Junior. Junior stomps Blake then pounds on Dax and yanks his pants…ripping his underwear apart! Geez, next time wear some actual ring gear. Dewey and 3rd are tagged, they cover each other for two. Ruff & Steel attack the nerds, 3rd and Blake go at it, clothesline 3rd, tag Junior, they sandwich him, fallaway slam gets two. Junior with a bootwipe, tag 3rd, armbars, sandwich! Blake finally hits a neckbreaker, chinlock and sleeper, 3rd escapes, they clothesline each other. Tag Ruff and Dax, Dax trips, Ruff with a knee wipe, sits on him, snapmare and punt gets two. And the Animals are harassing pNut…errrr…Nikki Knight. Dax’s underwear is around his waist, geez. Dewey tags in, Blake kneelifts Dewey for two. Dax grabs his crotch area, then grabs the Animal doll and runs to the back…the Animals follow. Errr…he get punched in the groin or something? Dewey tries to suplex Blake, Ruff stops it, but he rams their heads together. Dewey misses the clothesline, LOW BLOW Steel, backbreaker/flying kneedrop combo and the NMW team gets gold! Unbelievable, Ruffington/Steel are champions! Match was a bit better than the rest so far.

WINNERS and NEW CHAMPS: Eric Ruffington & Blake Steel pin -> 11:55 mins. **½

The Animals come back to the ring, then headbutt the ref! Unsportsmanlike conduct by the Animals, they shouldn’t had left the match and have no one to blame but themselves. We go to intermission.

DaCobra vs. “Today’s Top Story” Dangerboy – New Breeders here, they act friendly toward each other at first, Danger with an armbar, shoulderblock and elbow DaCobra, dropkicks all get air. Danger shakes with DaCobra but turns on him, pounding him down, hard hip toss, legdrops get two. Spinebuster Cobra gets two. Dropkick to the face and Danger bails, but stomps Cobra on the way back in the ring, Cobra tries a wheelbarrow but gets thrown down, Danger with a wheelbarrow chinlock gets two. Danger tries a ropewalk with the armbar, but slips! He tries a second time and hits a legdrop for two. Danger to the top, flying clothesline gets two. Cobra with a spinning DDT, running dropkick from the floor nails Danger between the ropes. Cobra with a 540 senton MISSES! KICK WHAM STUNNER Dangerboy! He fetches a chair, misses the swing and bops himself, Cobra rolls him up and gets the pin. Geez, I’ve wondered why they go for a chair when they aren’t getting the pin, knowing full well they’re risking a DQ. Suitable high flying, high impact match, despite the slip on the ropes. Dangerboy pouts afterward. Today’s top story…Dangerboy LOSES! Film at 11!

WINNER: DaCobra pin -> 9:20 mins. ***

NMW Heavyweight Champ Hardcore KC vs. Jewels Vega – Oh wait, Jewels is apparently not Jewels, he’s “The All American Athlete Ricky Powers”. Geez, just how many names can one guy have? Jewels Vega, Son Son, Cellblock, Animalyn, Jailbait…and now Ricky Powers. Heck, there’s probably another name I missed in there. The problem with having so many names is you can’t build up any kind of name recognition with fans in general, and frankly I don’t know of anyone that plays so many gimmicks at once. For the purposes of this rap sheet I’m sticking with his original name. KC with a sneak attack, but Vega throws him around, with an odd armdrag, side slam gets two. Vega throws an off-timed armdrag (geez, what’s with all the blown spots tonight?) that causes KC to slug him down and he goes to work on the ankle. Boot choke, reverse elbow, snap mare, and yanks him down by the hair. He misses the kneedrop and Vega hits the dropkick, and does the slow motion cartwheel headscissors. Standing moonsault almost misses the target and gets two. Vega with a flying elbow and here comes Issan Hadeev! Vega knocks him off the apron, DDT on KC and Hadeev breaks up the pin, drawing the DQ.

WINNER: Jewels Vega DQ -> 8:35 mins. *½

Hadeev neckbreakers Vega, camel clutch as he’s screaming how does it feel! John Scott runs out for the save, then tells KC and Hadeev they’re gonna face Vega and a mystery partner at the next SLW event. Match wasn’t good, no fault of KC’s.

Handicap Match
Mississippi Madman vs. NBWA Heavyweight Champ Diego Corleone & Adam Evans – Well there was some statements that these were the most talented ones in the card are being wasted in a handicap match. Perhaps this should had been made a triple threat instead. Diego has the mike, he calls Madman a Donkey Kong reject, and they are the real deal, and demand the audience give them the respect they deserve. The who’s house chant rings out and the heels proceed to stall. They try to shoulderblock Madman, but he sidesteps and they crash. Chicken chant, so they try to match strength and get shoved down. More stalling. Heels try punching, no effect and Madman rams their heads. Madman throws Evans into Diego, suplex on Evans. But Evans chopblocks Madman, and they work the leg. Diego chinlock, Evans dropkick to the face. Madman grabs a chokehold and throws them off. The heels does some choking of their own, Evans with a splash off the second rope for two. The heels with a double bearhug, Madman breaks free and tries a splash but misses. Diego splashes him instead for two. They foolishly try to slam Madman and he slams them both! Powerslam Madman on Evans, spinebuster on Diego. Madman tries the Vader bomb but misses. The heels try something, but Diego gets splashed in the corner, Evans tries to nail Madman from behind but splashes Diego, FIFTH FLOOR Madman on Evans and gets the pin! Mostly drama here.

WINNER: Mississippi Madman pin -> 11:35 mins. **½

Diego and Evans argue then shove each other, then fetch chairs ready to combat each other, but then drop ‘em and hug, teasing the crowd.

SLW Heavyweight Championship - Sinister Six Ladder Match
Petey Clark vs. Donovan Cain vs. CCW Heavyweight Champ Jason Lyte vs. GAW CS Champ Alex Monroe vs. Aaron Matthews vs. Joe Cain – Special rules here, it’s elimination lucha libre for three of the six, once down to three they can go for the ladders and the belt. BTW, you can only call a belt a world title if it’s defended outside the country. SLW claims they’re gonna have a separate heavyweight title. Kinda redundant in my view. They intro five, and John Scott comes back out to announce the mystery sixth guy. He claims he couldn’t find anyone…well he didn’t ask Hardcore KC now did he? He says he went to Donovan’s past, his little brother Joe. Well I had thought Joe was never gonna wrestle again cause of a grudge. Here we go. The Hybridz start the match, against each other oddly enough. They wrestle, armdrags Cain and slaps. Lyte gets slugged by all corners, Don with a shoulderblock, Lyte misses a dropkick, armdrag Joe…and now we have rotating flying headscissors, then rotating springboard dropkicks, yep everyone gets some. Lyte attacks Clark, choke to the mat. Lyte slugs Monroe off, misses the boot on Clark, Matthews jumps in and slugs away, Clark gets clotheslined down. Aaron dropkicks Petey, Petey suplexes Aaron and hits a neckbreaker for two. Aaron with a DDT and Clark tries leaving, Don Cain with a BIG kick to the face, crossbody sends him out. Joe in, atomic drop, suplex by Don gets two. Don with a facebuster and side spinning neckbreaker on Joe, tag Lyte. Lyte whips Joe, catches him, SHOULDERBREAKER gets two! Rope saved him. Lyte tags Clark, chops Joe, slams him, middle rope moonsault gets two. Monroe is tagged in, elbows Joe, but Joe with a hurraconranna, fisherman’s buster of sorts gets two. Monroe with a RAKE, standing suplex, one hand cover gets….TWO? Shoulder shot up, but the ref says not in time, it’s a three count!

Joe Cain, you ARE the weakest link! Goodbye! Monroe pins Joe Cain at 9:30 mins.

Back to action, the Hybridz trade chops! Lyte with a poke, stomps his head, Monroe jumps in and almost steals a pin. Monroe whip, Clark enzuigiri, Petey with a DDT! Clark with the spinaround moonsault…MISSED! Aaron in, SUPERKICK on Petey! Flying headscissors! Aaron goes up, frog splash! Lyte dives off the top and nails Aaron to break it up, piledriver blocked, superkick by Aaron! Monroe fetches the ladder EARLY. Donovan Cain and Monroe slug it out, Lyte tosses Aaron, Lyte SUICIDE DIVE on Monroe and Petey! Don and Monroe back in, Aaron fetches the ladder, Don knees Monroe, flying kneedrop. Aaron gets thrown into the ladder! Clark laddershots Matthews! Cain rolls Monroe up for two! Monroe with a backflip kick on Cain gets two! Aaron injured his hand it appears. Matthews in, suplexes Petey, Aaron is thinking of something crazy…backward headscissors of some kind on Petey and that is enough for the pin.

Petey Clark, you ARE the weakest link! Goodbye! Matthews pins Clark at 16:10 mins.

Monroe goes for the belt early, but Lyte yanks him down, and Lyte dumps Aaron off the ladder and hits a ladder shot! Donovan Cain is leaving the match…when did he get eliminated? Apparently he got pinned, but I totally missed it. Monroe got it.

Donovan Cain, you ARE the weakest link! Goodbye! Alex Monroe pins Cain at ??:?? mins.

Okay it’s Lyte vs. Monroe vs. Matthews now. Repeated ladder shots by the three remaining! Lyte powerbombs Matthews. Monroe high knee in the corner, Lyte kick, pickup, POWERBOMB INTO THE LADDER! And now that thing’s broke! Matthews may be DONE. Monroe high fives Lyte, then clobbers him, heh. Lyte argues with Monroe, they tug-a-war the ladder but Aaron with a springboard dropkick to knock them down! Aaron gets a chair, pounds away on Lyte, puts the chair on his face, VAN DAMNINATOR! Monroe gets another ladder, Aaron is hurting. Monroe puts another ladder up, the broken ladder is put on the ropes, Monroe goes up the ladder, Lyte climbs up, Aaron goes up with them and DDTs them both off! Well that ladder is damaged. Aaron pulls the ladder away and sets up for something…he doesn’t go for the belt, he splashes Lyte from the top of the ladder! Refs try to fix the ladder, haha. Monroe has Matthews, Widows Peak…no the crucifix into a PILEDRIVER! Lyte sets the good ladder up, Monroe trips him, puts the bad ladder in the corner, Lyte reverses the whip and Monroe tumbles into the ladder! Lyte with a belly to belly SUPLEX on Matthews INTO THE LADDER! It’s good and broke now! Lyte suplexes Matthews, Monroe with a running shooting star on Matthews, Lyte punts Monroe! Lyte moves the ladder, but is a bit off, Matthews up with him but Monroe shoves them off! Monroe goes for the belt, Lyte up, slugging on top, Aaron goes up to the top rope, Monroe and Lyte have the belt in hand, Aaron Matthews dives off the top and STEALS THE BELT FROM THEIR HANDS!!! He’s on the mat with the belt and he’s the champ!

WINNER and NEW CHAMP: Aaron Matthews KO -> 26:15 mins. ****½

Bunch of people come out from the back to congrat Aaron Matthews. Oh here comes DaCobra, who won a title shot earlier in the night for the next event. He gives him a hug…and SLUGS HIM! You just KNEW this was coming! He has his belt, and Matthews gets into a fight with him! DaCobra gets a suplex, and a bunch of people swarm the ring…DaCobra tries to fight everyone but Matthews feeds him a superkick and he flees the ring! Well you can’t beat GI Joe there Cobra! After a bit of mouthing off we’re done for the night, and it’s a long drive back home.

The Verdict: Well, now I gotta problem, should I give a glowing review because I got comp’ed or be honest? I don’t believe I should tell white fibs. Too many matches on this show were wrestled badly I’m afraid. The ladder match was the only thing that saved it from being a total washout, blowing everything else outta the water. SLW has had a rough start, as the tagline states. We’ll see where they go from here, but they’ve got some work to do. Unknown when their next show will be, though it’s a bit far for me to travel to watch often.

Thumbs leaning down.

Can't a girl have a name?

pNut is a nickname that I was awarded in my teenage years at WaCoHi. Not sure why, and honestly, i don't care.

Apparently, wherever I go, I'll forever be pNut.... but I've seen other pNut's around- and to those girls remember- there is only one ME, and you ain't her.

Man, I have to tell you, I was at that show and you have mistakes in at least 3 of your match reports.

Well, to start off, it was George the 3rd who did the neckbreaker on Blake, not the other way around. Jewels Vega was not the first name that was used by him, and what does it matter? Can't read th epost while I'm doing this, I'll get back later.

Here we go. If you'll recall the reason the Animals left the ring, that manager in the lab coat stole their "manager." They left to "protect" him. Might have mentioned that Madman not only slammed his two opponents, but slammed them AT THE SAME TIME! That was an awsome move that got no mention from you. You also have thumbs leaning down as the finish of your review. That's fine, you shouldn't give glowing reviews because you were comped. However, you only show one match below 2 stars. Everything else was above. While I don't think this was a 5 star show, I don't think it should have thumbs leaniong down, particularlt with your overall ratings.

Ummmm...you might wanna look at the ratings again, five matches were under two stars. The errors have been noted however, sometimes I don't get everything and forget other stuff.

Yeah I'm aware Jewels Vega used the name Ricky Powers and half the paragraph is on the multiple names stuff...

My mistake, 5 of 9 were below 2 stars. However, you had one above 5 stars. And I don't send tapes for people to review. I watch for the enjoyment of watching. I read a review of someone who was there and get a bit perturbed when they get things wrong.

Well I can say long ago there was a WCW PPV where the first two matches broke four stars, but the rest of the show each match was two or less, most less than one, and it got a big thumbs down.
