The Rap Sheet - NBWA 4/21/2K7
The Rap Sheet – from the Mad Conservative
New Breed Wrestling Alliance
4/21/2K7 Rantoul, IL
Okay, NOW I’ve been to a New Breed show!
The views expressed by the critics of the Mad Conservative are definitely not his own, and should be taken with a grain of salt, because they are scared of people who speak their minds and don’t think fans should ever express their opinions on wrestling shows because they “don’t understand the business”. They are also advocating the shutdown of 411mania.com, 1wrestling.com, pwinsider.com, pwinsiderxtra.com, declarationofindependents.net, and a whole host of other websites and have all their journalists and contributors silenced because all of them are “destroying pro wrestling”. I am also looked at as the biggest heel in central Illinois solely cause I speak my mind and write these reviews, go figure.
I was all set to take in a double-header today by driving up to Lincoln for PWI in the afternoon, then make a hop over to Rantoul to break up the distance between venues. Turns out PWI Friday night cancelled the show without explanation. Seems PWI is having problems again—you realize this promotion is only able to do like 5-10 shows a year and yet they claim they’re better than all other promotions in the area. With PWI out the window, I decided to go ahead and make the long ninety mile drive to Rantoul and be done with it…though I could had stayed home and watched UFC 70 and forced myself to get my backlog of video editing caught up. Doesn’t help the video editing software fouls up and the file you’d been working on the past few weeks is ruined and locks up the PC forcing you to start over from scratch.
Finding the place was not immediately obvious for someone who’s never been to Rantoul. Though I looked at the relative location using Google Earth, had to do a bit of circling around until I could zero in on the building. The Lincoln’s Challenge Academy where this event was held is an Air Force and National Guard base, it also is a boot camp for troubled teens. The gym was rather big, very high ceiling and a lot of room for fans. The start time for the event was to be at 6pm, and doing a head count there were only like 120-130 people here. Uh oh, that’s a lot lower than what was previously hyped that this place drew before. They say the cadets are gonna fill the bleachers, but they’re late.
What I was told was there was some sort of issue with one of the teams of cadets in the cafeteria, so that held them up, as a result the whole show got delayed like 40 minutes. By about 6:30pm the head count in the building hit 200 or so with the cadets starting to come in. Ten minutes later there were 180 regular fans with 100 cadets. Now that’s more like it. At the end of the night there were a total 420 people paid, 190 of those fans, 230 of them cadets. Another 25 were comps, so 445 total. Tickets were only $3, $2 for cadets.
Tonight’s event is the so-called NBWA-SLW-GAW Supershow, where representatives from all three feds battle it out for bragging rights to being the most dominant fed in eastern Illinois. To drive home the point, there are three separate dressing areas…NBWA in one corner, SLW another corner, and GAW in the middle. But geez, who’s a genuine NBWA guy, who’s an SLW guy, and who’s a GAW guy? Most of these wrestlers have worked for all three feds, and in SLW’s case, no one on that roster originated from that organization, as its roster is made up of mostly GAW and NBWA guys. This of course does not account for the folks from CCW, NMW, NGW, and whichever other feds there are around. Folks from GAW and NBWA have been defecting around, to the point you need a bloody scorecard to keep track of who’s on what team. Adding to the problem is the inconsistent booking among the three feds…yes sir, ANGLE CLASH has reared its ugly head! “NOOOOO!!! You must not speak of ANGLE CLASH! It is FORBIDDEN!!!” But the monster that is ANGLE CLASH is too huge to ignore as the actions, alignments and storylines of people involved are not the same between all three feds! And thus the average fan who is going to all three feds shows are confused! “NOOOO!!! The fans are not confused! They know it’s just a show!!!” Ah, but I see ANGLE CLASH has a group of fans in its jaws chomping away at the kayfabe in their brains! “No, no NOOOO!!! Kayfabe is dead! That doesn’t matter! Different fed, different story!” Oh you FOOL! You’re running a three fed feud, you’re ruining the illusion and nothing is consistent! “NOOO!!! The fans only go to one fed, they don’t go to the others!” Wrong-o again, it’s a three fed feud, you’re fighting up and down I-57, a span of 60 miles! Fans can get to either show very quickly, so they are exposed to it all! The show is tanking with your bad booking and the monster known only as ANGLE CLASH has succeeded in devouring your fans! They won’t be buying any more tickets! They are lost forever! BahahahahahahahahaHA! And now some screwball is looking at me cross-eyed over the dramatics. Like I care.
Back in February I pitched the idea of doing a drawing challenge and sent NBWA a video file where I take shots at everyone then lay out the challenge. The three feds compete to see how many they can draw to their own show for a particular month. The winning fed would run the worst drawing fed’s show for one night with the second place finisher paying no penalty. GAW and SLW did not want to do the challenge, I guess because GAW was the worst drawing fed of the three at the time and getting them motivated to promote has been a problem. That besides the fact they could not afford to give acknowledgment to clout and credibility. Well, had they gone about and accepted the challenge, GAW drew 120 in Arcola on 4/7, SLW drew 90 in Mattoon on 3/10, NBWA in Danville had something like 150-175 on 3/24 before this show, so NBWA would had won the challenge and been running SLW’s next show.
Live from the Lincoln’s Challenge Gym. Your ring announcer is Amanda. Your director of the Academy is Peter Thomas. Your commentary team are two guys I don’t have names for and I can’t hardly hear them over the ruckus crowd energy the cadets are putting out…and thus we now need to get the boot camp kids to every wrestling show in the area so we have people who know how to make noise at a wrestling show. We’d have to find a way to get them to waive the curfew though.
Don Kato comes to the ring first, who’s got a bad wheel and a kendo stick. He notes how great the prior show at this facility was. They’ve got two other feds here that claim to be better than New Breed. They get booed, Kato says they need to support the NBWA because they want to keep doing shows here. He calls cadet Courtney Kelly to the ring to sing the national anthem. About halfway through, Issan Hadeev’s music plays but Miss Kelly ignores it and sings the whole thing. Hadeev, along with Shad Tally, Dangerous Drew Thomas, DaCobra and Jef Harris who looks a lot different from the rough rider look he’s done in GAW and SLW [ANGLE CLASH!] in actual ring gear.
Issan Hadeev calls the American national anthem racist. Pffth, don’t give the ultra-extremist Moveon.org any ideas. USA chant fires up to counter, Issan doesn’t take it too kindly. Kato asks they want. Issan wants New Breed to die. They kick their butts time after time but it’s the cockroach that keeps coming back to life…okay I made that last part up. Kato asks if they’re gonna keep disrespecting the greatest fans in the state of Illinois. USA chant fires up again louder this time. Kato asks if they get in the ring and he kicks their butts himself. On a bad leg? He’s like supposed to be out of action for six months with a torn ACL! Well I guess he thinks if Jimmy Jacobs could do it so can he…well Jacobs is only 170, Kato is over 400 pounds here. Less weight to carry on one leg. The heels charge the ring but DaCobra is the only one who slides in the ring and gets whacked with the stick. Harris jumps in but gets whipped with the stick, about whiffed on the first shot there. Drew Thomas however gets his licks in, and everyone whacks Kato with the stick. Wrestlers start running out from the back, but the first group get thrown out, more guys come out, including Diego Corleone and they hurl everyone out, Jef Harris is on the floor and DaCobra is thrown on top of him, smacking him in the head against the floor and giving Harris a bloody nose! Sgt. Jones chant erupts as he enters the ring and it’s a mere standoff between the parties. After a while, someone from the back with a mouth full of metal comes out saying something about himself being the newest guy to hit the New Breed scene or something. Oh it’s Prince Nova. Can’t hear much over the cadets. Diego has something to say, he tells him to shut his P-Diddy wannabe arse. He’s the strangler, business looks good, he calls the shots, he best check himself before he wrecks him. Diego says Lincoln’s Challenge cadets show respect, he’ll show him respect, a true American icon, he’ll be wrestling Sgt. Bobby Jones! If the fans want to see him kick his butt, give him a hell yeah!
The whole GAW roster comes out, plus Hunter Matthews. Since when has Hunter ever wrestled with GAW? He hasn’t wrestled SLW and NBWA either. Apriq Laveq is here, I thought he was dead? Also present are Benjamin Taylor, Jesse Clark, JC Michaels, Conner Riley, Chuck Ray & Kenny O’Brien. JC Michaels runs his mouth about greatness. Crowd craps all over them. GAW is the greatest promotion in Central Illinois he says. Ummm…they’re not the highest drawing fed that’s for sure. Calling themselves the greatest fed is very debatable, in fact debunkable. I hold up a sign that says “Prefers New Midwest”, which Conner Riley comes down and gives me five, and got a few chuckles from the cadets. Guys from Chicago’s board are offended by the sign and think I shouldn’t be holding a sign like that. Of course these same folks think nothing about fans chanting TNA at a WWE show, showing what hypocrites they are while using the weak excuse of “well it’s a national fed” as if that shields them from their double standard. JC calls Petey Clark the greatest heavyweight champion ever from central Illinois. Okay, the guy just won the belt ONE WEEK AGO. Meanwhile I can name at least TEN people that were better champions than him, ask me again who’s the greatest champion ever from central Illinois in about a year if Petey still has the belt. JC calls himself the greatest heavyweight…ugh, the Twin City Wrecking Crew the greatest tag team--ummm…compared to who? And they have the greatest valet ever, a mop named Vanessa. Okay, Perry Saturn wants royalties for stealing his “Moppy” gimmick. Cecil finally comes out, ALONE. Oh I can see where this is going…
GAW Heavyweight Championship
(c)”The New Trend” Petey Clark w/ GAW vs. Cecil Cerveza w/ NBWA – Four GAW guys stay out here. Cecil wrestles Petey down early, trade armdrags and chops but Petey hits an enzuigiri and blasts Cecil in the head. Petey dumps Cecil out for the mugging, the Tally twin is looking the wrong direction as usual, Petey hurls Cecil in the corner but charges into a boot. He however hits a slow motion clothesline immediately, goes up, moonsault misses! Petey bails, and Cecil suicide moonsaults on the GAW guys! Petey doesn’t let that advantage last long, shoulderblock gets two. Cecil with a jawbreaker and side kick for two. Slugfest, Petey with a crotch flip gets two. Cecil with the inverted spinning neckbreaker for two. Cecil with some weak punches, but they clothesline each other out. Ken & Chuck jump in with the ref going after him, Petey calls JC Michaels in and hits his “that’s a wrap” on Cecil, Petey with a springboard moonsault and gets the pin. Well this match was slow with some missed spots. Kenny O’Brien and Cecil had a horrible match at SLW weeks ago, Cecil didn’t do much better with Petey. GAW is up 1-0 on the night.
WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Petey Clark pin -> 8 mins. *
It appears NBWA forgot to bring a bell, so I fetched mine, but Harker Dirge soon after lends his to the timekeepers table.
Hardcore Match
JC Michaels w/ GAW vs. Jaxson Pride w/ NBWA – Isn’t Jaxson with GAW and still allied over there with the Elements of Power or something? Eh, maybe something changed at GAW’s last show, but I dunno. JC was still in the ring but Pride charges in…the GAW crew attack Pride with weapons, but Pride gets a DDT on someone. A different Tally Twin is reffing this match. They’re into the front row! JC gets rammed into the bleachers, DDT on the floor! Jesse Clark interjects himself, Pride slugs it out with Ben Taylor, they soon make their way back to the ring, Pride has a cut right about the eye. A chair is thrown into the ring, JC with a LOW BLOW, CHAIRSHOT! JC with a kendo stick! He puts the chair on the chest of Pride, Pride turns the chair and crotches JC! Pride CHAIRSHOTS JC! JC though chairshots Pride, dumps Jaxson out in front of the GAW crew, Petey with a kendo shot! Ben Taylor fetches a trash cash, Jesse Clark slams Pride on the floor and he’s bleeding a lot more. Cover gets two. Methinks the New Breed guys aren’t backing up their men very well. Trash can shot for Ben Taylor from Pride, but misses a dropkick. The GAW guys swarm Pride, five guys fighting ONE. This is ridiculous. The Clarks do their legsweep/clothesline on Pride, JC with his that’s a wrap on the trash can and the pin. What a crock. GAW is only great in NUMBERS and overbooking, thank you very much. They all take parting shots on Pride. This match originally was to go a lot longer than this and much later in the show. GAW is up 2-0.
WINNER: JC Michaels pin -> 6:30 mins. *¾
Apriq Laveq w/ GAW vs. Bloody Harker Dirge w/ NBWA – Dirge could be on either GAW’s or NBWA’s team practically, but he is literally the hometown favorite here. Laveq was practically pulled outta cryogenic sleep for this matchup, as he hasn’t been seen since last August and hasn’t worked with GAW for just as long—his popular identical twin gets all the bookings. The sight of a vampire scares off all the GAW guys, and geez, Apriq could have had a great feud with Dirge under the vampire hunter gimmick about a year ago…but Apriq is STILL Apriq. A cute girl is reffing this match…known as Carley. Dirge stomps around growling and drooling for the psyche out job. Dirge overpowers Apriq easily, punches from Apriq have no effect, Dirge stomps him down into the ropes, sits on him, guillotine legdrop, Vader bomb follows for two. Dirge misses a charge, but Apriq misses a charge and falls to the floor. Dirge gives chase but Apriq shoves him to the post. Dirge throws him back in the ring however and goes up, Apriq slams him off for two. Apriq armbar DDT gets two. Apriq tries an axe from the top but is caught, side suplex Dirge, slam, BOOT gets two. Apriq pickup is blocked, Dirge locks in a stranglehold called the Dirt Nap for the tapout. Good match. GAW is up 2-1.
WINNER: Bloody Harker Dirge submission -> 11 mins. ***
Wear the Ref Shirt Match
Shad Tally w/ SLW vs. Chad Tally w/ NBWA – One of these two twins have had some wrestling training, but maybe it will be watchable if it’s a common sibling brawl. Drew Thomas is in Shad’s corner. At least they’re wearing different colored clothing so I can tell them apart. Chad goes up in the stands with the core. Before the show even started they came up to me doing some trash talking, this a continuation from a lengthy argument I had online with Chad over my negative review of SLW’s last show, and a Chicago poster claims they were trying to get me to ref but I backed down and complained about my personal beefs. I don’t remember being ever offered a ref shirt. Anyway, rules of this match, to win you must fetch your ref shirt off the pole and put it on. Sign: “Neither Fed Wins With Tallys”. Shad slaps his bro around and torques the arm, Chad gets a hammerlock, Shad full nelson but quickly goes to kneeshots. Chad with a few armdrags and Shad is to the floor. Chad just stands there until MOAV repeatedly yells at him to go get the shirt. Yeah really. Chad finally goes after it after Shad stands up, but gets LOW BLOWED. Shad goes for his shirt but Chad intercepts and ten punches him in the corner, clothesline, and Chad slowly goes up. Shad intercepts and slugs him on the top rope, Chad throws Shad and hits him in the back. Sigh, these shots look pretty lame. Suplex attempt is blocked, they chop each other, somewhat. Shad throws Chad out, he doesn’t go for the shirt and goes after Chad instead, tossing him to the post. Drew attacks Chad as Shad shoves the girl around. Now she may be a referee, but that’s no way to treat a lady! Shad throws some lame elbows, Chad with an atomic drop, Drew on the apron, misses a beltshot and nails Shad, he jumps in the ring to get the SLW shirt, but Chad has the NBWA shirt on and it’s over.
WINNER: Chad Tally KO -> 8 mins. *¼
Well this match was watchable, but the thrown shots didn’t have much force behind them. Chad tells Shad if he lost he had to leave SLW, so welcome to the New Breed. Heh, I suspect I’ll see both of them at the next SLW show. Miss Carley takes off her ref shirt and hands it to Shad, who is reluctant to put it on with a “put it on” chant going, and has Jon Divosi come out to make him put it on. NBWA is up over SLW 1-0.
NBWA Tag Team Championship – Ladder Match
(c)Wrestling Dedefined – Jason Vendetta & Aaron Matthews vs. SLW Tag Champs Feature Presentation – Eric Ruffington & Blake Steel w/ someone who isn’t Nikki Knight. I dunno who this girl is with the FPs. Amanda’s having problems with her mike as it keeps cutting out on her. Only the NBWA Tag belts are on the line here, both of them are hanging high up in the arena. And a few wrestlers were way up in the air hanging them before the show. Ruff & Vendetta get thrown out, Blake and Aaron with double suicide dives. Matthews gets clotheslined by Blake, Ruff posts Vendetta! FPs take over on Matthews, Vendetta throws a ladder at the FPs. WR puts the ladder on the FPs, double legdrops. Vendetta sets up the ladder, the WRs goes up, but they clothesline the FPs from the ladder. Matthews with a hard chop on Steel, throws him thru the middle of the ladder, Ruff and Matthews slug it out on the floor. Blake gets a chair, stops Vendetta, Ruff gets a chair, chairshot to the gut! Blake wedges a chair in a corner, Matthews and Ruff go up the aisle, Blake throws Vendetta into the ladder, Matthews and Ruff enter the GAW locker room pulling out Chuck Ray and Kenny O’Brien. Ruffington gets slammed on the floor, Vendetta backdrops Blake into the ladder! Ruff throws Vendetta into a chair! Ruff goes for the belts, Vendetta appears to have overbladed, yeek! Sorry, hitting a flat object does not open up a cut that big. Matthews shoulderblocks the ladder, Ruff goes down. Steel CHAIRSHOTS Matthews out! He goes up the ladder, Tally has to steady that thing, Vendetta signals something…sunset flip off the top of the ladder! Yeek! Ruff with a grazing shoulderblock on Matthews. Ladder is set in the corner, kick, uppercut Ruff, powerbombs him into the ladder! But Matthews headscissors out of a second one and sends Ruff into it! Ladder is set up again, Matthews goes up, shooting star press on Blake! Ruff sends Vendetta into the ladder, tries for a piledriver off the ladder, slips, does a piledriver from the mat. Matthews with a double stomp to the back, it’s a car wreck! Vendetta is bleeding way too much here. Blake goes up the ladder, Matthews tries to springboard to the ladder, but slips…and messes up his knee! Blake tries to do something to Matthews, Matthews slugs him off, pulls down one of the belts and the ref calls it. Botched finish. NBWA is up 2-0 on SLW.
WINNERS and STILL CHAMPS: Wrestling ReDefined KO -> 11 mins. ***¼
I dunno what Matthews was trying for, but the finish was completely messed up. I also thought both belts had to be pulled down, not just one. Rating is lowered a bit for that.
Prince Nova vs. Sgt. Bobby Jones – The director of the Lincoln’s Challenge Academy Peter Thomas does the introductions. The reception for the Sarge is so loud, they’re chanting “FCA” I think. Jones clobbers Nova about the ring, suplex gets two. Jones powerslam gets two. Nova gets a clothesline outta nowhere, both up at seven. Nova misses a charge, Jones side suplex, slam, goes up, BIG BOOT WIPE legdrop! Geez, that HAD to hurt! Nova with a rake and clothesline, weak and stupid looking dancing legdrop gets two. Jones hits the Rude Awakening. Nova with a slam, but hurt himself doing it. Jones slams him, Samoan Drop, Jackhammer follows for the win.
WINNER: Sgt. Bobby Jones pin -> 8:25 mins. **¼
BIG extended squash. Nova wants to shake hands with the Sarge, he ends up saluting him instead and raises his arm. The cadets were loud and ruckus for the Sarge throughout. And some of them are leaving…appears they have a curfew where they are in bed by like 9:15pm. Ugh. Since this was a NBWA vs. NBWA match no points awarded.
NBWA No Limits Championship - 15-Man Royal Rumble
Well here’s a story for ya. Gavin Alexander was the prior holder of the belt, two weeks ago it was defended in a 15-man lumberjack gauntlet/battle royal hybrid match. Jonathan Scott last eliminated the champ, and for some reason John Scott didn’t want the title he just won and tried to give it back. But Gavin Alexander wrecked his leg, and is outta action, so the title was declared vacant. Thus this match was set up, NBWA vs. GAW vs. SLW for the belt. #1 is Cyclone, #2 is Cheapshot McGrot and they decide to just dance instead of wrestle. They call themselves the World’s Greatest Masked Tag Team. #3 is JT Rain, Cyclone’s Forces of Nature partner, and he goes after both men! Geez, when’d they split up? Cyclone clobbers Rain with a splash, McGrot with a headbutt, they double team him. #4 is Chuck Ray, with Conner Riley who is limping badly. They don’t cut the music between entries, and appears the intervals are not evenly spaced. #5 is Prince Nova and he clotheslines Chuck. Cyclone dropkicks Nova, Rain slugs McGrot, Nova suplexes Cyclone, and now there’s a bit too much action. #6 is out already, someone with ET on the side of his pants, Kid Crush. Cyclone with a springboard clothesline on Rain, Nova slams Cyclone, 4 minutes passed. #7 is Jesse Clark. Chuck Ray gets double suplexed. #8 is "The Best Kept Secret" D'Andre Jenkins, formerly known as Snake. Jesse with a boot on Kid Crush. #9 is Kenny O’Brien…what are these, 30 second intervals? Kid Crush with a slingshot to the back of the head of McGrot! #10 is Pain Train, a big guy wearing a Johnny Cash shirt, and enters the ring with a chair! He proceeds to chairshot EVERYONE in the head! This isn’t a hardcore match! Chuck Ray gets dumped at 6:45, Kid Crush is thrown out at 6:55, Pain Train throws McGrot out head first to the floor! Ugh, that’s dangerous. Jenkins gets thrown out, then Nova with a hard shot, Jesse Clark gets thrown out, Kenny O’Brien tries to get JT Rain out…but Pain Train dumps him and Kenny out. And #11 Johnathan Scott is slow to get in the ring. Conner Riley conveys to me that he twisted his ankle from trying to catch Cecil Cerveza’s moonsault earlier in the night. #12 is Dave Parker, and there’s a shoving match in the ring. That music just won’t shut off. Pain Train with a big clotheslines turning him inside out. #13 is the Irish Playboy Justin Clark…complete with blond Mohawk. Well apparently that IS his real name and has a bit of Irish ancestry according to him. Dave Parker gets tossed, John Scott in and chops away on Pain Train, but Clark chops Scott. #14 is Wild Bill. LOW BLOW on Wild Bill! Bill crashes into Clark. Gee does anyone ever shut the music off? Scott continues to camp outside. #15 is Alex Monroe, guess he was waiting on him. Finally they shut it off, geez. Most of the core has left. Clark mows over Monroe, the two big guys crush Monroe in the corner! Double clothesline, then they turn on each other. Bill and Pain Train dump Clark out at 13:05. Monroe & Scott vs. Pain Train & Bill. Train almost gets rid of Scott, Monroe hits an enzuigiri on Bill. Scott is on the apron, heel miscommunication and Monroe accidentally knocks him off at 15 mins. Pain Train does a SICK move on Bill, dropping him on his head. Train charges but Bill ducks and he goes sailing out to end it.
WINNER and NEW CHAMP: Wild Bill -> 15:25 mins. N/A
I rarely rate royal rumbles. NBWA goes up 3-0 on SLW, finishes in a tie with GAW at 2-2. Alas there’s no tiebreaker.
Concerning Pain Train, unprotected chairshots, dropping two guys on their heads…reckless and unsafe. And he runs talent relations at NBWA, but doesn’t wrestle at other feds due to his work schedule. Not even ONCE? Others will beg to differ. Not likely video from the match will be posted on Youtube so you can judge for yourself.
NBWA Heavyweight Championship
(c)Dangerous Drew Thomas w/ SLW vs. “The Strangler” Diego Corleone w/ NBWA – Jef Harris & DaCobra are in DDT’s corner. By the way, they’re really NBWA guys too. More interference to come. They get on Shad Tally’s case for losing earlier and question his loyalty. Strange to see Diego under the face role, he’s been a heel everywhere else I’ve seen him. DaCobra and Harris try to jump Diego but Diego gets rid of them both rather quick as Drew Thomas stalls outside. Finally they lock up and Diego works the arm and through the crotch. Eeek. Drew chops him weakly, so Diego chops him hard. Diego misses a charge and hits the floor, DaCobra gets a cheap shot, Harris with a LOW BLOW, Drew slams the leg against the apron, and goes to work. DaCobra and Harris pound him on the floor, tosses him in, but Diego gets a small package for two. Diego with a backdrop for two. Drew goes back after the leg, half crab with a knee to the back. Diego gets a flatliner outta nowhere for two. Diego charges Drew and Shad gets squished between them. Great. Harris jumps in with the clip, Drew locks in a figure four, Chad Tally runs in wearing the stripes and Diego is tapping. Well SLW gets a point, but they lost too many earlier to win the series. NBWA up 3-1.
WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Dangerous Drew Thomas submission -> 12:30 mins. ***
Drew Thomas leads a beatdown on Diego, going after the leg and slapping on another figure four.
Dangerous By Design – SLW Heavyweight Champ Issan Hadeev, SLW Supreme Champ DaCobra & Jef Harris w/ SLW vs. NBWA Midwest Champ Angelo Santelli, Jon Divosi, & Don Kato w/ NBWA – Well Kato is injured, so they were supposed to get a mystery partner in his place…but for some reason could not make it. So it’s 3 on 2. They couldn’t find any volunteers? Again, the three SLW guys are really NBWA guys, in an example of angle clash, Harris still teams with Wild Bill everywhere else but here as a good guy, but is a bad guy traitor here. And he looks a lot different wearing ring gear that consists of tights, boots, and knee pads from the jeans and cowboy boots he wore. Someone quips that Hadeev assassinates Arabians. Divosi works on the arm of Harris, tag Angelo, suplex gets two. Angelo with a gorilla press slam, tags Divosi. They do a double team, they grab him by the legs and flip him backward. Divosi makes a wish and hits an elbow, tag Angelo. Double elbows, ten punch in the corner, tag, Angelo with a springboard dropkick on Harris, clothesline to the floor. They clothesline each other, Divosi in to clean house, DaCobra bears the brunt as he’s hit with a flying headscissors. DaCobra with a side elbow, misses a charge, Jon hits a German for two. DaCobra is tossed out, Divosi hits a vicious DDT on the floor! DaCobra is put on a table, Harris and Hadeev try to save him but get clotheslined down, Angelo goes to the top and does a long leap crashing into DaCobra, and Angelo appears to be injured as the bell rings. It’s a countout? Divosi does a crossarm breaker to pop Angelo’s shoulder back in…yeek! The ref restarts the match, as Divosi dives on Hadeev and DaCobra. I’m surprised DaCobra is still walking after being driven through the table. Harris posts Divosi, spinning neckbreaker gets two. Harris with a Russian leg sweep for two. Harris hits an elbow, hurranconranna off the top at 10 mins. Hadeev finally tags in, suplex, POWERSLAM gets two. I am wondering why they wouldn’t let them get a third partner, and there’s not many people left in the building right now. Hadeev atomic drop that doesn’t even make contact, spinebuster gets two. DaCobra and Hadeev with a LOW BLOW wish. The assault continues three on one, armbar DDT by Harris…and another version of the Sopranos theme revs up as Don Kato limps out here. Divosi gets double teamed in the back, the commentary team seems unaware of the torn ACL, Divosi kicks them off and tries to tag but didn’t get it. Hadeev continues the beatdown for two. Choke in the corner, uppercut, elbow by DaCobra gets two. The girls try a Divosi chant, DaCobra has a sleeper hold for two, escape and it’s a double clothesline. Count gets to seven as Kato and Harris are tagged, Kato manages to clean house as no one can budge him, back drop on DaCobra, Kato is limping badly, Hadeev is tossed, Kato has Harris, knee gives, he picks him up again and manages a powerslam for the pin.
WINNERS: Angelo Santelli, Jon Divosi & Don Kato pin -> 18:05 mins. ***½
Angelo is in a sling, he wasn’t injured, but did a masterful sell job that made us think he was. Kato is DEFINITELY hurt however, and stays down as several from the back come out to check on him. Vendetta hasn’t cleaned up his face from the ladder match earlier. Diego Corleone is called to the ring for help. Hadeev says they may have lost the match tonight but Kato is finished as is New Breed. Jaxson Pride runs up and slaps Hadeev, says New Breed is still standing in the ring. Diego says he’s sick of their BS, he’s still standing, if they play dirty, he’ll play dirty and they’re FIRED! But he gives them one chance to come back if they all recite the Pledge of Allegiance and salute the American flag. Does he even know the pledge? Hadeev reluctantly agrees so he has DaCobra start…but Diego wants them to do it in unison. Hadeev scolds Harris & DaCobra for not knowing the words…but recites it up until he says “under Allah!” Diego ain’t thrilled with it, so he’s fired. Hadeev relents and does it over, but Diego wants him to put his hand over his heart and salute while he’s doing it. Get it over with already! Diego says if they don’t do it, just leave and wrestle in somebody’s backyard. Hadeev does it one last time and get it right finally. Ugh, what was so hard about that? Diego is happy, cause May 20th, he’s coming after all of them…and I think we’re done now.
NBWA wins 4-1, effectively burying SLW…though these are all New Breed guys anyway. GAW splits with NBWA so nothing’s settled there. Combined score is something like NBWA 6 to 3 for GAW & SLW together.
The Verdict: Kind of a mixed bag, depending on who was in the ring wrestling-wise; the opener being a real clunker. Crowd heat was huge however throughout, solely cause of the boot camp kids. When they had to leave to go to bed, it got quieter as the night wore on. Unfortunate, but what can you do? Where does NBWA go from here.
Thumbs leaning up.
