The Rap Sheet - from the Mad Conservative

Cruising through middle of summer…
Recent days I’ve gotten awfully angry over the content of a certain “wrestling” chat show due to the very disparaging remarks uttered on it about me and barely talk about wrestling period. The anger was great enough that I warned the owners that I may have an outburst against the hosts. Appears they act just as badly off camera toward their former colleagues when they encounter them.
By the way, whoever these lawyers are that certain unastute people threaten to have critics like me sued for writing about their activities, please give me their business card because I have about two dozen slander & libel suits I’d like to file for the hundred times worse stuff said about me cause I can’t one on my own.
Well attendance seems lacking this month, about 90 people. I dunno how much promotion was done but it shows tonight. There’s not much else going on in Springfield with more key places closing up and gas prices keeping people from going to St. Louis or Chicago. Live from the American Center. Jimmy “The Bruiser” is not here tonight, so in his place is the man known only as Billy Bass. And I need to get together a spreadsheet with the stats for the guest ring announcers. Your ring announcer is Billy Bass, who seems pretty unprepared for this.
Bao Nyguen vs. Brian Breaker - Wow, an WLW match to open, and the same one from BCW the prior night. I really wish J-Mac would announce ahead of time when he has guests like this cause it gives that extra reason to attend instead of do something else in town. Breaker with a shovedown, Bao gets a headlock, but can't knock him over, so he kicks the legs then runs him over. Bao with a flying headscissors and kicks him in the head. Bao with a chop and kicks the thigh. Bao evades, tries the crucifix but gets backslammed. Breaker with a suplex for one. Breaker with a standing choke, kicks the rope to damage the neck some more and slams him, legdrop gets two. Rear headlock by Breaker, Bao elbows out, backslide gets two. Bao small package gets two. Breaker with a running side elbow and stomps the arm. HARD whip into the corner and kicks him in the back. Rear chinlock, side suplex, ram in the corner, shoulderblock, another hard whip into the corner. Breaker does a third one but Bao hops the corner, Breaker catches him but Bao slips out and hits an enzuigiri. Breaker charges but gets tripped into the turnbuckle, Bao with dropkicks, legsweep, twisting senton, uppercut, but runs into a backbreaker for ONE. Breaker suplex is blocked, Bao with a rollup and gets the pin. Solid opener by the WLW guys.
WINNER: Bao Nyguen pin -> 9:10 mins. **¾
Jon Magnus w/ Stephani King vs. “Rush Effect” Michael Shard - Well, years ago it was Shard at odds with Stan Sallinger as NMW president over title shots. My have things changed. Shard ducks a clothesline but can't wrestle him down. Shard puts him in the corner and Stephani hops up complaining, Magnus nails Shard, but Shard off the ropes, pulls down the rope and Magnus goes sailing over. Steph grabs Shard's leg and Magnus nails Shard. Geez, just cause you're the owner you can't break the rules like that. Magnus pounds away, whip to the corner but eats a boot. Shard tries a sunset but gets sat on. Magnus after him, throws him back in the ring and pounds away. Magnus with slam, elbow gets two. Whip to the corner, Shard tries a clothesline but hits a brick wall, so he dropkicks the knee and goes to work. Magnus cuts him off and hits a lariat for two. Shard to the floor, Magnus follows but Shard bounces his head into the apron and chops away. Magnus clubs him back in, whip to the corner and splash, lariat in the back of the head gets two. And Magnus goes to a bearhug. Shard runs Magnus into the ropes and out of the ring, Shard slingshot crossbody to the floor but gets caught, ram to the post and fallaway slam on the floor! And I am still used to the new name. Stan stomps him, puts him back in, cover gets two. Shard fires back, feeds Stan a boot then hits a flying headscissors from the second rope. Stan catches Shard but Shard headscissors him down. Bleh, I can't type this new name anymore. Stan locks in a full nelson, but Shard runs up the ropes and hits a tornado flatliner but only gets two! Stan has a CHAIN! Stephani is on the apron, Shard hits a flying forearm, Shard takes the chain away, but Stan wraps the chain around Shard's neck! Dumb Nick the ref doesn't see the chain in front of his face and calls it a KO. Moron, we need more and better refs.
WINNER: Jon Magnus KO -> 10:20 mins. ***
Shane Matthews comes out here to gloat over the screwjobbed Shard and puts him a stranglehold, then Stan counts a pin. Well Guy Smith storms out here and runs off Shane, Stan asks if he’s scared. He gets the mike and says he wants his rematch, against Shane. Two three years ago, 2005 he was NMW champ, Shane ended that reign. He tells Stan to leave since he’s got bigger fish to deal with than superstar Guy Smith and goads Shane into the ring.
“Forever Man” Guy Smith vs. “Marvel” Shane Matthews - Guy grabs a headlock and knocks Shane over. Shane won’t go near Guy as he does pushups to mock him. Shane can’t do a pushup on the floor…well geez, how’d he get out of the academy? Back in, Shane with stomps, but Guy hits a lariat and he bails again. Shane argues with a fan as Guy pulls him back in and slams him down, legdrop gets two. Guy shoulderblocks in the corner, hard chop, Guy charges but runs into an elbow, Shane with a flying kick to the head. Shane slugs him, whip to the corner, Shane botches a shoulderblock and kicks him in the gut. Oh geez, not that stupid “Saturday Night Live” sleeper move…well Guy stands up with it and busts out, Shane grabs it again…and this time it looks like a sleeper hold, rollup gets two. Shane with a leg scissors, wow a midget-style tilt-a-whirl gets two. Shane argues and gets rolled up for two. Shane knocks him back down, Guy reverses a whip to the corner and hits a elbow, hurl Shane straight up and face first down to the mat. Oh geez, Stephani is running out here still steaming over being called a shank. Guy boots Shane down for two. Guy says she can’t ever get a man like him while Shane has BRASS KNUCKES! Shane SLUGS him with it…but the ref counts a very slow two count. Stephani hands Shane something else then chokes Smith on the ropes as inept Nick the ref argues with Shane. Ref counts another slow two. Shane whip powerslam and showboats, late cover gets only two. Shane has that chain around Guy’s neck as Nick continues to pay too much attention to Stephani. Guy refuses to give and elbows out, and has the chain around Shane’s neck! He gets dumped out, Guy picks him up and hits a DVD for two. And now Stan Sallinger runs out here and tries to nail Smith, but Guy avoids three shots then it becomes a slugfest as Shane grabs him for Stan to hit but misfires the clothesline on Shane. Shard runs out here to dispatch Sallinger as Guy hits the belly to belly on Shane for the three. Capital Punishment 2005 this wasn’t. Ugh.
WINNER: Guy Smith pin -> 12:40 mins. **
Well Smith continues his feud with Magnus trying to make him look as irrelevant as possible while Magnus insists Smith is irrelevant to him but gets goaded into picking fights with him. Magnus and Marvel make one last attempt to rush Smith and Shard but get sent sprawling to the floor for their trouble. Well this seems to suggest these four are gonna have a tag face-off at some point.
NMW Tag Team Championship
(c)Feature Presentation – Eric Ruffington & Blake Steel vs. Maximum Destruction – Sage Ramsey & Jason Wells w/ Jackie Sazerak – Well Anderson Rhodes is no where to be seen this month. But Jackie is here instead! He notes that, and calls for security to come over. He directs each security guy to cover an exit so the FPs don’t try to leave again and if they do $100 to throw them back in. I see at least one exit not blocked. FPs charge the challengers and beat them down, dump Sage and stomping on Wells. Ruff drop toe hold on Wells, kneedrop by Blake gets two. Blake slingshots onto Sage but gets caught, Blake shoves him to the post however as Ruff pounds on Wells. Wells recovers and slugs Ruff down, slingshots Blake back in and clotheslines him out. Dinn T. Moore vs. Brandon Espinosa – Well DTM is back. They have a couple lockups, Espy gets an armdrag. DTM gets one of his own. Justin MacIntyre & Nick Brubaker vs. Zero Gravity - Brett Gakiya & CJ Esparza - Somehow Brubaker forgets how high the ceiling is, gets on the second rope then spins around and jumps up but bumps into a ceiling tile and cuts his head. Whoops. J-Mac has the mike and says Nick is freaking hardcore and still prettier than anyone in the building, then asks for a bandaid. J-Mac says he was working on his hot bod and his chest got tender so don't beat on his torso. J-Mac says Nick is what the future has to offer, and tells a girl her beard is thicker than his. He tells someone else to get a haircut and a better t-shirt. He then says this will be the last time Zero Gravity will appear in NMW. What is he gonna kill them both or something? They take a lot of time to get ready. Looks like Brett and J-Mac to start. J-Mac does push ups, then Brett does them better. J-Mac works the arm, Brett flips over to reverse and chops him. J-Mac freaks. Brett kicks the leg, springboard armdrag, and works the arm. Tag CJ and Nick. Nick complains about the cut and they trade shots, dropkick CJ, armdrags, Brett in and Nick runs off. J-Mac in, double dropkick, hip toss, and Nick gets tripped into J-Mac. Double moonsaults on the heels, Zero G with double slingshot attacks to the floor. Brett has Nick down, snap mare, kick, Brett WHIFFS on the crossbody, but CJ hits the senton. And J-Mac tags in, Brett in, dropsault Brett, armdrag, J-Mac nails Brett and tags Nick. Pound in the corner, charge misses, Brett tries to do his hopping the ropes but gets caught, tree of woe, Nick kicks him in the head. Brett out, Nick with barely a spring kick for two. Brett kicks Nick away, chops, Nick with a suplex and Brett appears to have landed bad. J-Mac in, allows Brett to tag and JC is in as security carries Brett off. Nick jumps CJ from behind, pounds in the corner, running forearm and brings in J-Mac. Suplex, side slam gets two. J-Mac clothesline in the corner and wipes his boot in his face. J-Mac charges but misses the target, CJ wipes his boots in his face! CJ sunset flip in gets two but is lariated. Nick in, stomps away and wipes his boot. Nick with a suplex for two. Tag J-Mac, he continues to pound, BOOT, tag Nick. CJ escapes a side suplex, hits a dropkick. J-Mac in, CJ evades him, tornado DDT on Nick, running spin neckbreaker on J-Mac gets one but Nick stomps him. Double teaming on CJ, powerbomb! Neither man wants to obey ref instructions and he just calls it a DQ. Anti-climatic.
WINNERS: Zero Gravity DQ -> 14:40 mins. **½
The bad guys continue stomping CJ, and Brett limps back with a chair as the heels walk off. Brett NAILS CJ?!!?? WTF? CJ stands up and he blasts him again. And now the three of them stomp him down. Where is Eric Logan? BTW, what was with the two faked injury incidents in a row?
Steven Bishop comes out with of all people...Axis. He says he's not here to wrestle but wants to show him how to be an NMW superstar and he has for him as an opponent...the Mississippi Madman! Geez...suckered him in.

Madman gives chase but despite everyone yelling at him to get back in and break the count he keeps following Bishop until he gets counted out. Barf. Madman gets back in and chokeslams Axis.
WINNER: Axis countout -> 7 mins. *½
NMW Heavyweight Championship - Double Jeopardy Match
(c)Benz vs. El Diablo Silverado w/ Scotty Cash vs. Toga Steve vs. Billy Morgan – Okay, instead of the July tournament, we have a variation of the fatal four way, it’s a scramble elimination match where it’s supposed to be two singles matches going on at the same time, then the winners of those two face off. So Toga fights EDS and Benz fights Morgan, though methinks they could switch off. Also, this EDS looks like he’s gained a lotta weight. Toga bumps into Morgan and Benz, then decides to get some duct tape to add another “rope” and separate the sides off. Cash doesn’t get it. Toga pounds on EDS, whip clothesline. Morgan pounds on Benz. Toga boot choke on EDS. Benz slams Morgan over the tape, Toga slams EDS over the tape. And they switched off, Toga and Benz slug the foes and break the tape as Cash mocks Toga’s “great idea”. Benz says he feels sorry for the ref as Morgan pulls Benz out and EDS neck snaps Toga. Toga hits a clothesline on EDS, belly to belly as Benz puts duct tape on Morgan’s back and rips it off! And into the crowd we go! Toga snap mares EDS in the ring and locks in a sleeper as Benz bashes Morgan’s head into the wall. EDS gets a suplex on Toga for two. Japanese arm drag gets two. Morgan fires back on Benz and throws him into the wall! Morgan with a choke on the table, and bashes him into a stack of tables. Someone’s drink is knocked down on the floor and Morgan smears Benz’s face in it! Cash comes over and slams a table on Benz’s head! EDS continues the assault on Toga, Morgan charges Benz but gets backdropped on the floor as EDS gets two. Benz pounds on Morgan as some kid chants for Morgan. Toga has the plank and chases EDS out of the ring. Morgan is tossed back into the ring as Toga chases EDS and pounds him on the floor. Benz whip to the corner, charges but hits the post. Cash nails Toga from behind and EDS with a stand choke. Morgan shoves Benz into another post as EDS has the plank and nails him with it. Morgan pounds on the shoulder, EDS slams Toga on the apron and puts him back in. Dual covers get two. Benz clotheslines Morgan out and Toga chases EDS out of the ring again. Morgan slams Benz on the apron, but Benz is up and walks into an armbar DDT and torques his arm. Cash is in the ring pounding on Toga! EDS comes in, snap mare, dropkick gets two. Morgan hammerlock shove into the post, EDS with the Juvy Driver for two. Toga hits a SPEAR on EDS for two, as Benz slams Morgan on the floor. EDS flees again, ya know I wonder if this heavier EDS is about outta gas trying to keep up this appearance. EDS back in with a kick to the gut, double legdrop gets two. Morgan puts Benz back in as EDS and Toga spill to the floor. Morgan with another armbar takedown and has the Kirasawa armbar locked in. Toga with a DDT on the floor. Benz gets a foot on the rope, EDS with a LOW BLOW, Morgan rams Benz in the corner, EDS tries a suplex on the floor but Toga hits a spinning neckbreaker! Morgan whip to the corner, charges but eats a boot, full nelson slam by Benz! 15 minutes in thus far. EDS put in, Toga pounds, Morgan tries a fireman’s carry but Morgan hits the pedigree! Double cover as Morgan jumps up to break Toga’s cover…what the ref can’t make a double count? Morgan argues with the ref then argues with Toga and Toga slugs him! Toga whip shoulderblock on Morgan! Toga shoves Morgan back, bumps into Benz, Benz rolls him up and gets three! Morgan grabs the rope after the three count and claims he had the rope. Nope sorry you’re outta here!
Billy Morgan, you have been kicked off the island! Benz pins Morgan at 16:40 mins.
Morgan protests as Toga orders him to leave. Toga turns attention to EDS, Morgan runs back in with the bell and clocks Toga in the head, then breaks it over Benz head! Man whatta sore loser. EDS can’t decide who to pin then covers Toga for three.
Toga Steve, you have been kicked off the island! EDS pins Toga at 18:15 mins.
EDS covers Benz but he kicks out and EDS throws a fit pounding Benz in the head. EDS with the Juvy Driver for two. EDS can’t believe it. EDS with a choke, second rope legdrop gets two. EDS tries for the unprettier and hits it! Two count and Benz is out again as EDS whines. EDS tries for the unprettier again but Benz shoves him off, fireman’s carry into a massive spinebuster takes out EDS for three!
WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Benz pin -> 20:55 mins. ****
Well I have to give it this rating Benz stumbles around with the belt and Toga comes back into the ring as they decide to yank that mask off EDS. Cash protests as Toga keeps him away…and it’s Jackpot JD Rodgers under that mask! Cash calls him Spotlight and says he just had a bad night out drinking. Whatever.
The Verdict: Ringwork was solid as always, though the big disappointment would be the Smith/Marvel match as Shane is not the same wrestler as he was before he left for the academy. I dunno maybe his heel character isn’t conducive to the effort he exuded before. We’re pretty much coasting through the summer months here with the feuds between Smith & Magnus, Shard & Marvel, Benz & Scotty Cash, Max Destruction & Feature Presentation and what looks to a be a new feud between Brett & CJ.
Thumbs up.

Thumbs up.
