The Rap Sheet - GAW 8/12/2K5 - Forsyth Results 8/13
The Rap Sheet - from the Mad Conservative
Great American Wrestling
8/12/2K5 Maroa, IL

Hottest ticket in town, but for a different reason...

EDIT: I put down earlier that Pride's foot was broken, it's actually just fractured, which doesn't require a cast or wearing a brace constantly. Lucky Dane however won't clear him to wrestle in GAW for two months, other organizations may or may not allow him to perform at their own discretion.

I didn't know when I was gonna attend another GAW show, but their head referee and his roommate needed a ride this evening since neither are licensed to drive and I needed to get a long sought after video of their outdoor show back last September to the owners. Certain people in the crowd though, just irk me like mad and have become a real disincentive to attend any show with them there cause of their hot-headedness and their insistence to limit or flat out block discussion as if they think they are the only ones who are allowed to talk. If they won't debate anything without throwing a major temper tantrum over the content these guys who are worse than trolls are not worth my time and they should consider getting off the internet entirely.

Attendance appeared to be about 75 or so. Your commentary team is Christopher Lee and Slick Rick Castle, who I thought moved away. This month they have a video projector set up. Long highlight video of a bunch of prior matches over the year. Then cuts to a video where Ms. Black is pacing the hall where there was a staff meeting going on behind a door and apparently they didn't bother to let her attend. Ben Taylor comes out of the meeting and she calls Prime Time Playa to be not a serious wrestler. Not serious? I don't think you're experienced enough to know Ms. Black. Well she's got what's left of her trio, Tricky Dick Moore and Smooth GQ and wants her team going for the tag titles tonight of wish she promises to win them. Says they can beat a little guy and a one legged guy, Taylor says as long as they don't have the titles he's happy.

7-Man Royal Rumble
The winner of this gets to draw from 20-29 for the upcoming Blue Collar Brawl, which apparently they're saving #30 for something (better not be given out on a silver platter to someone). #1 is Tru Talent Johnathan Scott. #2 is Eric Ruffington. Scott avoids Ruff for the opening minute as the commentary team doesn't seem to know the difference from a regular battle royal and a rumble. The music for La Megra plays, and he appears to be a LOT smaller than the last time we seen him. Ruff got a clothesline Scott. #3 is La Megra at 1:45 as he took a long time to enter the ring. Ruff and Scott try to ditch La Megra out but he hangs out. And #4 is Jessie Clark in at 2:35. Gee what are the intervals here? One minute, two minutes, starts when they enter the ring or is it flat? 3 minutes, lockup with Ruff and Jessie with Scott and La Megra stand outside. Ruff and Clark mat wrestle, in a battle royal, suplex by Ruff but Scott trips. Scott gets a figure four on Ruff. #5 is Billy Reno at 4:50. Jessie has a weak slugfest with La Megra. Ruff is almost gone but gets back in. Guess the heat has gotten to everyone as they're going slow. #6 is Jewels Vega with tiger shirt at 5:30. Ruff suplexes Reno. Clark with a DDT on Scott. Scott lazy backdrop on someone. Scott low blows Clark. They throw Reno out, but through the ropes as he's quite short. And here's #7, Marcus St. Christopher at 7 minutes as everyone STOPS to glare at this gay dufus before bailing out. I've figured it out, MSC seems more of a ripoff of Adrain Adonis. Now he should just use "You Don't Own Me" by Klaus Nomi as his theme. Someone jumps in and attacks MSC, Scott pounds on him. Reno tossed in. Jewels gets pounded by Clark & Ruff. MSC grabs Scott's chest to drive him off. Vega snap mares La Megra. Ruff throws Reno down. Vega hip toss on Reno. Jessie almost gets thrown out but he hangs on the apron, but neglects to get all the way back in, and Ruff knocks him off at 10:10, Scott throws La Megra out at 10:15. Back splash by MSC on someone. Vega & Reno get splashed by Scott. La Megra steals Ruff's hat. Ruff dumps MSC out, goodbye loser at 11 mins. MSC fetches a mushroom chair to watch the rest of this. Reno gets tossed by Ruff at 11:50, but Ruff almost gets knocked out. Ruff avoids Vega and Scott. Scott hits a splash in the corner, Ruff hits a double boot on Vega and Scott. Vega almost falls over the top, Scott gets on all fours, Ruff tries to springboard dropkick off his back, he knocks him off and he smacks his head on the floor, while Ruff lands hard against Scott's back...yikes. Out at 13:30 mins. MSC comes over to harass Vega. Scott and Ruff fight it out, kick to the gut by Scott. Fisherman's suplex by Scott. He slugs away on Ruff, MSC jumps in the ring and Scott jumps over the top rope himself to get away from him! It's over.

WINNER: Eric Ruffington -> (3-2) 15:15 mins. *¼

This rumble was rather underwhelming. The ring entrances were a complete distraction and the intervals were so inconsistent and short that they weren't doing much of anything until everyone was in there. Stats, Ruffington entered at the start and finished at the end, scoring five eliminations, Scott scored one and eliminated himself at the end. Absolute stupidity on his part. Hardcore KC runs in outta nowhere and slaps the ankle lock on him before being restrained. A heelmark contingent really doesn't like Ruffington.

Prime Time Playa comes out next, giving a farewell speech and thanking the fans for voting him the bad guy of the year. He's going to North Carolina and leaving Illinois. It's then that Ms. Black comes out, while Tricky Dick Moore and Smooth GQ run in from the fan entrance and jump PTP and dump him out. Well that draws Sammy Da Bull out here saying this ain't happening. He does not want to put Jaxson Pride with a broken foot in a match for the tag titles until it heals up. Sammy says to make up for one less match tonight, he wants to wrestle Ben Taylor. And the sound system blows up, everyone's singing high-pitched now. Ben Taylor accepts but then the NEW COMMISSIONER of GAW comes out. I'd like to say first, this man was posting anonymously for a while, then he accidentally posts with his name signed to the post, informing everyone on the net instead of having it be a surprise during a show itself. And they griped at me for saying KC didn't deliberately skip a show. LUCKY DANE joins us, and says he's not gonna subject the fans who paid to see wrestling to a -***** match...okay I made that part up. Dane says Sammy called him 100 times trying to get the match stopped and accuses Sammy of not looking at him while he's talking. Dane doesn't care how hurt they are, he's got a signed contract so the match will happen.

GAW Tag Team Championship
(c)Jaxson Pride (15-3-1) & Joe Cain (9-5) (2-0) vs. The NEW Gentlemen's Club (1-0) - Tricky Dick Moore (1-1) & Smooth GQ Suavey (0-2) - So Pride has a fracture in his foot and will probably have to defend both titles tonight. Joe starts first and hits the heel kick on GQ, butterfly armbar and turns it into the crossed legs nelson and tags the injured Pride in. You're kidding right? Pride chops, hits a clothesline and tags Joe in. Joe hits a springboard senton for two. And GQ takes over with a clothesline and suplex. Tag Tricky who hits a side slam for two. Moore works him in the corner, tags GQ who hits a butterfly suplex. Joe manages a dropkick and hits a spinning elbow for two. Joe goes for pin combos but stops it with a hip toss and slam. GQ locks in what's described as a body scissors with hammerlock and chinlock. He turns it loose and puts him on top, back suplex and Moore is tagged who covers for two. Trading of chops but Joe DDTs him for two. Tricky suplex gets two, slam, elbow for two. Joe sunset flip for two. Tricky with a clothesline, tag double flapjack gets two. Joe somehow gets an STF after GQ gets caught, which draws Tricky and Pride in. Tricky gets dumped out, Joe with a fisherman's neckbreaker gets two. GQ with a sideslam, goes for the moonsault and MISSES! Joe with a flying elbowdrop gets two and goes to work on the leg. GQ with a slam however, tags out, Joe barely gets the wheelbarrow neckbreaker, so they are both forced to tag. GQ and Pride in, Pride on one leg slams GQ. Pride goes up, Tricky trips him up there and the wolves put him in the tree of woe and strip the braces off the leg and pound the heck out of it. Joe tries to save but gets hit with rolling Germans as Tricky continues the beatdown on the floor. GQ hits a powerbomb, he goes up, Joe intercepts however and hits a superplex for two. Pride is assisted to the back as it's now two on one. GQ hits a hiptoss that goes, well not good. Spinning neckbreaker by Tricky gets two. Joe hits the headscissors but has no one to tag. GQ in and hits a hard clothesline for two. The Gents choke away, GQ with a reverse DDT but only gets two. GQ DDT, tag Tricky, whip but Joe hits the scissors kick, springboard senton, then the springboard frogsplash gets TWO. Now Prime Time Playa runs out from the back wanting to sub for Pride and Lucky Dane approves. Tag PTP, he clobbers the Gents, and hits the Fameasser, but Ms. Black is on the apron and Ricky the Ref in a literal trance over the cleavage. Sigh. You not get enough of it in the locker room Rick? Tricky sneaks up and hits a spinning neckbreaker and PTP, GQ lionsault gets the win and the titles. Bah. Looking back, Joe took a lot of punishment but didn't take a lot to put PTP down, hmmm. Match was really good despite it being mostly a two on one, and it better be on the list of candidates for GAW match of the year next July. Two people I wouldn't had thought lecture Ms. Black on getting rid of good talent and PTP says he's not gonna forget this, until he gets about forty miles away from Maroa.

WINNER and NEW CHAMPS: The NEW Gentlemen's Club pin -> (2-0) 21:50 mins. ***¾

I'd like to stop at this point as they take an intermission to replace the speakers and examine a plague that has been running around the various independents. The nasty disease dubbed the ANGLE CLASH. It's even worse than the Jerry Lawler syndrome, which I have to diagnose who has THAT later on. But ANGLE CLASH, is where a fan goes to two different feds in close proximity that may feature the same wrestlers but are engaged in activities that are well...clashing with each other. What's particularly nasty about this plague is that it causes some people to really go postal when the symptoms of this disease are diagnosed, cause you aren't supposed to talk about the illness with others. ANGLE CLASH leaves confused fans who aren't smarks wondering what the heck is going on and why there's a big disparity. Groups knowingly allowing ANGLE CLASH to occur aren't doing themselves any favors. Since some of these postal types read these show reviews, I'm pretty much forced to just utter the words ANGLE CLASH when I see one but must avoid how they contracted it. Treatment for this plague is done in top secret clinics or when the clash is put back into alignment...but beware, if the alignment takes forever to come into place then the cure will be ineffective. If you think you've got ANGLE CLASH, talk to your local wrestling smark, taking cover preferably in an underground bunker far away from others ears or use PGP encrypted emails. Together, we can cure ANGLE CLASH.

Apriq Laveq (4-9-1) vs. Vampire Kaval (2-2-1-1) - Sign: "Marcus More Apriq Than Laveq". But sadly that match that was supposed to happen the next day didn't happen. It's vamp hunter versus vamp again and the brawl is ON! Kaval hits a standing hurraconranna and Apriq bails. He stalls like mad until an impatient Kaval gets too close for Apriq to neck snap him. Neckbreaker Apriq followed by a knee to the head gets a ZERO count. Spike DDT Apriq gets two and has to go a leg and neck tieup. Apriq with a clothesline and snap mare, chinlock, head yank. A suplex is blocked, rollup by Kaval gets two. Kaval with a crucifix submission hold, but Apriq Samoan drops him out of the hold for two. Kaval hits a monkey flip, clothesline and legdrop for two. Kaval hits a splash in the corner and running dropkick. Apriq however hits a kneedrop neckbreaker for two. Brain buster Apriq gets two. Kaval hits a springboard neckbreaker for two. Kaval goes up, hits a blockbuster, goes up, moonsaults, but only grazes his target, hurting himself. They're both up at nine, slugging away, they attempt to get a move on the other until Apriq gets a sunset flip for two. They both go outside, fetch chairs, smack each other with them and THAT draws a double DQ. Oh come on! Didn't like the finish, as last time they both get counted out, and we get no winner again. Something didn't seem to click about this match either.

NO WINNER: Double DQ -> 10 mins. **¼

They introduce the next combatant, but instead of AJ Powers, we get "The Kid" Jason Lyte who some people confuse with Kid Kash and the lovely Elektra Fine from CCW. He's here to showcase the Hybrids, and spouts off at the fans. He says there are two big egos in the group so he wants them to settle it tonight.

AJ "Not Styles" Powers (1-0) vs. Donovan Cain (1-3) - Is someone running around thinking AJ Powers is related to Spencer Powers? I know they aren't related at all, but in AJ's case that's his own name on the birth certificate. SSP, can't say the same. AJ however thinks everyone confuses him with AJ Styles. Both men in this contest I've conducted interviews with recently and they're both highly controversial. But I hope the desired effect is the promoters learn from their dumb mistakes by from the perspective of others. They try doing moves to each other but they keep reversing themselves at a rapid pace, until Cain gets a trip and headlock. They trade moves very fast until AJ hits some hard kicks and chops. AJ whip attempt is blocked, gut wrench blocked, AJ with an inverted suplex gets two. The crowd for some reason is sitting on its hands, except for me yelling. AJ chops him on the back, side suplex, legdrop gets two. AJ with a snap mare, headlock as someone says "come on crowd". AJ Powers with a PILEDRIVER gets two! Don Cain dumps AJ out though, pulls his shirt off, Don with a guillotine legdrop on the ropes! AJ fires back with a HARD CHOP, Lyte is liking what he's seeing...maybe. AJ pickup, Don armdrag. AJ POWERBOMB INTO HIS KNEE! Dang! Don gets up at two somehow! AJ elbowsmash, someone says Lyte is an RVD wannabe. AJ Irish whip they both duck and crack heads. AJ recovers and hits a fisherman's buster for two! Hard kick by Don, underhook into a backbreaker, and AJ does something that sends him down head first in a SICK bump, but Don kicks out. Sheesh, he's lucky he didn't break his neck. Someone comments that we're the only ones making noise. AJ with a snap suplex off the ropes, legdrop misses. Don Cain with a flying discus punch. Don goes for sliced bread, but AJ blocks it, hits a chop. AJ goes up, but Don knocks him off, AJ goes up and hurls him off sideways face first. The ref counts and I lead the crowd to get into it. They slug away, Lyte jumps on the apron, AJ knocks him off, Don gets thrown out into the bare floor and lands hard. There's no padding out there! AJ tries to suplex him back in but Lyte trips him up and Don steals it!

WINNER: Donovan Cain pin -> (2-3) 11:40 mins. ****

Great job Jason, screwing over AJ ain't gonna settle anything, it will just create more problems! Lyte leaves with Cain, but Elektra stays with AJ. Speaking of problems, what the heck's up with this unappreciative crowd? This a group longing for an Animals comedy match or something? Or maybe Vince McMahon's slow and boring WWE style? Match of the night, another candidate that best be on their list of matches for best of the year, but you wouldn't know it by this crowd reaction. Now I can see why I'm such at odds with GAW fans over my reviews.

We have an interview segment, it's Let's Talk Talent with John Scott. Oh goodie, time to get a soda. Scott says his guest is Leaky Dan! Ummm...no, Lucky Dane. Scott complains about losing the seven man rumble tonight, he says he was screwed. Ummm...no John, you SCREWED YOURSELF OVER. Shut up. John Scott says if he doesn't get his spot back he's gonna sue the fed for sexual harassment. Yeah right! Dane comes back with, if you're enjoying it, it ain't sexual harassment. Dane says though he's in surely for the sake of entertainment of the fans. The fans say they aren't happy with it. And here comes Spotlight and Cherry! Spotlight gets the barney chants for all the purple he's wearing. He addresses Dane and says Pride is in no condition to defend the heavyweight title so because he's the #1 contender he should have the belt handed to him. Before Dane can address him, JC Michaels comes out here now. Fans chant that he tapped out, JC denies quitting, he says he may be the spotlight but he's the main event and Mr. Everything. Dane wants to talk but someone ELSE comes out, Hardcore KC. KC takes credit for breaking Pride's ankle so he should be given the belt. Dane says for everyone to go to a corner. He tells KC he not in the title match tonight, but he's to wrestle Jessie Clark. KC says you may fine him $500 for breaking Pride's ankle, but he'll gladly pay $1000 to break Clark's ankle. Dane says the GAW office will gladly take the money. Now he addresses Spotlight, says he went 30 minutes with him (ummm...I remember that match, but it didn't break ten minutes...and no you can't count yakking on the microphones). Now he turns to JC, he says he took him outta the business and worked him hard enough to earn a little respect. Dane can't say either is #1 contender so they both get the slot. Jaxson Pride comes out on crutches, and says he could still kick JC's butt. He says he'll be out for three months no thanks to KC. Dane says there's sharks in the water smelling blood, he talked to the doctor who worked on Pride and says he shouldn't be in the ring. While they're talking I get into a debate with the fans closest by me over what kind of match should take place. Pride is willing to give up the title, Dane says if he gives him the belt then Pride gets no say. Some are telling for Joe Cain, Spotlight scoffs, but Pride says Joe beat Spotlight in the Freedom Cup. Pride has someone else in mind though and whispers the name in Dane's ear. Dane likes the idea and will make the match later. So the GAW Heavyweight title is now VACANT.

Jason "The Kid" Lyte (0-0) vs. "Primal Instinct" Kurt Rigsby (0-1) - Lyte gets the RVD chants, and Donovan Cain is moving slowly and limping. He's covered with welts on his body. This is Kurt's second appearance in GAW. They do some basic moves to start, Kurt gets control and hits a back body drop. They fire the forearms, snap mare kick by Lyte. Kurt with a snap mare, BOOT, suplex gets two. Kid with a rake and knees to the back, with chokes. They trade chops and Kurt gets whipped to the corner, tries to hop him but doesn't make it over, Kid with a BOOT. Kid grabs the arm and yanks upward with it, before whipping him into the ropes and Kurt hits a spinning heel kick for two. Kid with a DDT gets two. Kurt with a spinebuster, Kid with a rollup, Kurt tries something on a reversal but gets pinned with feet on the ropes. My initial rating on this was too much, some thought Kurt was real limited on his ringwork.

WINNER: Jason "The Kid" Lyte pin -> (1-0) 8 mins. **

Slick Rick Castle brings out who he says is a close personal friend, a former WWE star, Colin "The Snake" McDowell! WHAT? That guy stumbles out here with a bag and bottle. Gee where's the cocaine and straw? Okay we couldn't do that aspect. Colin says he wants to fight Joe Cain. Is he serious? I know Joe's sore and banged up from earlier, but still.

Colin "The Snake" McDowell (0-1) vs. Joe Cain (8-5) - Colin gets a clothesline(?) but then hits a DDT on the ref and dumps the rubber snake on his chest. Joe's up, KICK WHAM STUNNER...BYE BYE...NEXT! Did we really need to waste any time on a pointless segment considering how late it's getting? Total squash!

WINNER: Joe Cain -> (9-5) 33 sec. DUD

Truk Thompson (5-5-1) vs. Jewels Vega (0-3) - Sheesh we're past 10pm and I'm having to get another soda due to the heat. Jewels kicks him in the back following a whip and slaps on the rear chinlock. Truk stands up with him and runs backward into the corner and hits a splash. Vega tries a bulldog but it's blocked, kicks him down, showboats a little and gets SPEARED out of his boots. Big squash! Vega is now ranked DEAD LAST.

WINNER: Truk Thompson pin -> (6-5-1) 3:05 mins. ¼*

Jessie Clark (1-2) vs. Hardcore KC (5-3-1) - I bet this won't take long either. KC, channeling Jerry Lawler, hits a clothesline and pounds away. Jessie with a crossbody for two, opening trio, whip attempt is blocked and KC hits an inverted atomic drop. Jessie gets a backslide for two, hits a face plant, tries for the sharpshooter but KC reverses it into the ankle lock, tap tap tap. Squash city!

WINNER: Hardcore KC submission -> (6-3-1) 3:25 mins. ½*

GAW Heavyweight Champion - Triple Threat
"Spotlight" Spencer Powers (5-2-2) vs. JC Michaels (7-3) vs. Mississippi Madman (8-3) - SSP gets the barney chants, and Pride says he's not bringing Joe out for this, but says get ready for the battle of the biyou as it's the Madman! Man why didn't I notice he hadn't wrestled yet? This is your match to fill the vacant GAW Heavyweight title. JC and SSP go after Madman but get thrown off. SSP tries a sleeper hold but gets tosses off. SSP gets back body dropped. Madman gets poked, JC with a heart punch! JC just holds down Madman for SSP to attack. SSP tries the ab stretch but he can't get his arms around and gets dumped. JC hits something like a neckbreaker for two but SSP stops him. JC dumps SSP out, but Madman's on his feet, whip SPEAR! JC bails out...and LEAVES for the showers! Madman with a slam, signals chokeslam, Cherry's on the apron...Madman goes after her and SSP LOW BLOW! SSP hits the UNPRETTIER...for two! Man I was thinking upset all the way. Madman goes for 5th floor but gets raked, SSP goes for the unprettier, blocked, 5TH FLOOR gets two. SSP on the rope, Madman hits ANOTHER 5TH FLOOR and is still too close to the rope to get a cover. ANOTHER LOW BLOW by SSP, second rope legdrop misses by a mile. Madman with ANOTHER 5TH FLOOR, SSP foot on the rope but Ricky the ref counts three anyway?!?

WINNER and NEW CHAMP: Mississippi Madman pin -> (9-3) 7:25 mins. *½

This has the stench of DUSTY FINISH reeking all over this. Where the heck was Ricky looking and listening to? And SSP makes sure he gets punished for the dumb officiating error as he pounds him down. Madman stops him however as SSP leaves screaming he was screwed. Well yeah, even I can tell he was screwed. Madman will take him on anytime anywhere. Sammy came out here making me think this decision wasn't gonna stand, but does nothing. Okay, I'm happy Madman finally got a championship around his waist, I think it's about time he got one SOMEWHERE. Now the beefs, I'm not thrilled with how the match ended, cause it cheapened his title victory. I suspected it was gonna be reversed the next day and the title left vacant for the match to be held again. Why did JC Michaels walk off and quit? All this did was signal that he just couldn't hang with these guys and shouldn't had been in there. Match was rushed too and disappointing.

The Verdict: Well I can say the first half of the show was quite good, but with intermissions to fix the sound they rushed through the second half pretty quick, which I think hurt things a bit. The heat in that gym was just awful too. The Blue Collar Brawl is going to be their next show, but I'll be missing it for a video game and pinball convention of sorts in the southern part of the state.

We'll give it a thumbs up anyway.
