NGW Peoria's Cold War 1/28/2K6
The Rap Sheet - from the Mad Conservative
Next Generation Wrestling's Cold War
1/28/2K6 - Peoria, IL
This is supposed to be a cold war, but it's been a very warm January!
The views expressed by the Mad Conservative Crimefighter are solely his own and do not reflect the views of any wrestling company or even the views of the St. Louis Wrestling Community Journal, even though MCC is the editor! This is one of the few lengthy rap sheets left I'll be doing, due to lack of time with an ever increasing workload. And it seems I'm seeing a lot more indy shows than ever, and it's taking its toll. The amount of free time to kill at work just isn't there anymore, so it's gonna be highlights and not much more than that with ratings. Oh well.
This is the first major show of the year for NGW, which has seen major gains in the performances put in the ring over 2005. 2006 should tell the tale if NGW picks up in popularity among the indies in central and northern Illinois. For me it was a 75 mile trek up to Peoria, with passengers in tow. When I arrived, oh boy, NGW Michelle handed me a videotape of a documentary on an original crimefighter...Dick Tracy! Cute.
Live from the Peoria Riverplex. Your hosts are Scooter and Doug Devore, they go over tonight's lineup. Attendance was counted at 130+, may have been as high as 155. Come on Peoria, push that attendance count over 200!
Triple Threat Match
Catalyst Cory Carter vs. Jaxson Pride vs. Jester - TripC hits the ring before Devore can even get out who sponsored the show. TripC has his own cheering section, despite being the villian. Pride of course is from GAW, and holds the 3CW National title, it will be interesting to witness how Pride fits in to the NGW mix of things but he's having a hard time finding people to cheer him. Jester is Jester of course. They all shove each other to start. Now they're trading punches, TripC whips Jester, hip toss attempt is blocked, Jester kicks TripC and Pride. Pride whips Jester, reverse, TripC trips Pride and pulls him out. TripC and Jester switch around, TripC slams Jester, Pride grazing shot. Chops Pride, botched whip by Pride with an odd collison, Pride slam gets two, TripC tries to steal the pin himself. Pride chops Carter HARD. Carter chops Pride, but it has NO EFFECT! Pork chops Pride? Splash in the corner Pride on Jester and TripC for two. TripC goes after Pride but gets chopped down. TripC LOW BLOWS Pride, clotheslines Jester, Carter UPPERCUT! TripC splashes Jester in the corner, stands on his neck, Pride clotheslines him for two. Repeated covers get nothing. Jester dumps Pride out and he hits the floor HARD. Uh oh. Jester Juvy Driver on Carter gets two. Jester teases superkick, but Carter hits a suplex for two. Pride in, snapmare and kick on TripC, chinlock. Jester kicks Pride off, full nelson slam gets two. Pride with the muscle buster on Jester gets two. Carter kicks Pride, pedigree attempt is met with a Jester superkick, Pride gets two on the floatover. Jester breaks it up...almost cost him there. Everyone's down taking a breather, Jester with a DDT on Pride. Jester measures, UNPRETTIER on Pride! Carter with a kick to the face of Jester taking him out. Pride up, but TripC with the flatliner for the pin. Nice opener.
WINNER: Catalyst Cory Carter pin -> 8:25 mins. **½
Hardcore Match
"Sinnister" Raul Montanegro vs. Mississippi Madman - Think NMW is really missing Madman right now? Well these guys were tag team champions, but for some reason Madman missed the first title defense and well the belts were lost. And what the heck does FGP stand for? Sinnister wants to whip Madman for leaving him high and dry. I do one "Who's House?" chant for the Peoria audience, who have yet to experience what fans do in other locations. Sinnister yells at me to shut up, and after the show asks me if I knew who the bad guy was supposed to be. I didn't care if Madman was playing the villian, I was operating as the fan following his favorite sports team to a rival's town to root for them. Big arguement at the start over whether this should be a hardcore match or straight up match, Madman says he wants a straight up match, so Sinnister goes along with it...but it quickly goes hardcore fast as Sinnister hits a snap mare but Madman pulls out a pair of scissors! Uh oh. Madman stabs Raul in the head, but Raul with a LOW BLOW and stabs Madman in the head with them! Anyone remember Sid Vicious vs. Arn Anderson years ago? Madman hits a clothesline and the match spills to the floor...and it's a ramming to the post! The barbed wire board is pulled out, Sinnister nails Madman with it! Chairshot Raul, but Madman hits a LOW BLOW. Madman rakes him with the board, they climb back in, Madman hits a SUPERKICK! Madman jams him with a chair, puts it on Raul's hand and stomps it! Madman goes for a splash in the corner...but MISSES! Sinnister chairs him down and here comes the staple gun! Ack! Sinnister gets a buck and staples it to Madman's head! Ewwwwww... Sinnister with a choke, and fetches a BAG OF TACKS! Sinnister kicks the leg and dumps the tacks all over the ring...I yell it will take forever to pick those up! Madman grabs Sinnister though...5TH FLOOR IN THE TACKS!!! Madman decides not to cover, he wants to hit the Mississippisault instead! Well he climbs the ropes, and ugh, be careful them ropes are quivering a lot under his weight...MOONSAULT...MISSES and he gets TACKS INSTEAD! One of my two companions for the night is sickened and wants to walk outside for a while, don't blame her. Sinnister fetches a big barbed wire board and chairs and puts together a makeshift table! Sinnister attempts a suplex, it's blocked, LOW BLOW, 5th Floor attempt blocked, Sinnister SPINEBUSTER and it's all over!!!
WINNER: "Sinnister" Raul Montanegro pin -> 12:15 mins. **¾
Kinda slow and quite a sick brawl, but full of drama. The cleanup crew comes out to pick up the mess, and Chris Hazard comes out to kill time by ranting and raving about his missing belt and his two opponents. Hazard sees the buck stapled in Madman and laughs. Fans chant "Big Bird". Hazard is wrestling for himself, and mocks Big Pappa for wrestling for the people.
"Party Boy" Kody Kash vs. "Party Boy" Ray Hez - Well the loser here has to drop the name "Party Boy", thus this match is the fight for the right to party. I missed their breakup, so I dunno what happened between these two. Big BOOT to the face to start, getting two. I was told Kody apparently parties too much, and drinks too much to function. Ray hits an atomic drop, armdrag and dropkick to send Kash outside. Ray follows and hits a flying headscissors off the apron and tosses Kody into the post. Ray works the leg in the ring, applies a half crab. Tornado DDT attempt is blocked, Kody body drops Ray into the corner and hits some sentons. But the crowd is awfully quiet...and I'm bored. Kody takes over working the back and the face, until Ray sends him into the turnbuckle but gets hit with the big knee for two. They go outside and the crowd is still real quiet...and I'm wondering where's the party here? Kash with kicks, roll in, running forearms and rope burn. Springboard kick by Ray might have missed, poke, a second one hits. They slug it out and I'm getting punch drunk longing for a party somewhere else. Inverted DDT by Ray, hits a flying elbow from the top for two. Hez hits a blockbuster afterward to end this heatless match. This was hardly a party--long, slow and boring. Crowd didn't care at all.
WINNER: "Party Boy" Rey Hez pin -> 13:25 mins. *
NGW Triple Threat Championship - Ladder Match
(c)"Flipping Sweet" Brett Gikaya (3) vs. "Phenomial" Kyle Rich (3) - Well this should make up for the prior match. This is the finale to the best of seven series between these two, and Rich has managed to even things up after being down 3-1. They get slap happy to start, then punch drunk, and have a pork chop dinner until Kyle KOs Brett. Kyle side suplexes Brett on the back of the head...OUCH. Brett flying headscissors off the bleachers! Brett gets a chair, puts it under the X beams, chops Kyle, running forearm, puts Kyle on the chair under the X. Brett head of steam, dropkick to the shoulder against the X! He makes a wide circular charge and hits an enzuigiri! Geez...Brett waits for Rich to get up, charges but gets thrown headfirst into the X! OUCH! They're coming back, Rich press slam into the rail, taking it out. Kyle kicks the face, and PUNTS! He hunts for weapons, pulls out a bent up chair, they are back in the ring, Kyle goes for a tornado but gets chopped, Gikaya with a suplex off the top rope to the floor! Kyle may be finished! Gikaya puts the ladder in, Kyle is holding his back. Brett sets up the ladder, Kyle in with a chair and throws it at his head! Kyle climbs, Brett springboard dropkick off the ladder! I said don't die Brett! Brett puts the ladder down, kick, moonsault stomps Rich on the back! Brett climbs the ladder, but that thing looks like it will tip. Rich intercepts, Gikaya tries to kick him off, flying headscissors off the ladder! Gikaya fetches a chair and throws it in, it HITS off the ladder and lands perfectly ready to sit in! HA! You could do that a million times and never have that happen again! Brett makes a "table" with the ladder and chairs, Rich grabs him though and slams him on the ladder. Ladder won't stay so at an angle, Rich double stomps Gikaya! Rich ties up the legs, Indian death lock stomp face first! Rich stomps, tries to set up the ladder and chairs, Rich suplex face first into the ladder! Kyle with a running knee shot to send Brett outside. 16 minutes. Brett's gonna be hurting tomorrow morning. Kyle kick to the back! Crowd wants another but Kyle refuses and does an uppercut. Brett is in a heap, Rich tries to get that ladder out, kid is calling him a retard for not going for the belt. Rich looks for another chair and pulls out a blue one. Brett rolls slows back in, Rich sets up two chairs, he goes for something, but his back gives, then tries again and it's a PILEDRIVER ON THE CHAIRS! ONE OF THEM SLIPPED OUT AND THE OTHER ONE GOT BENT UP GOOD! MY GOSH! I dunno how Brett didn't get a broken neck from that! Rich goes for another ladder, I'm surprised Brett is even moving at this point. Brett with some weak shots, chop, sheesh how can Brett be fighting back right now? He tries running off the ladder and hits a springboard into a reverse DDT on Rich onto the second ladder. Springboard moonsault Brett but catches an elbow in the groin! Uh oh. Brett manages to get on his feet, we're over 20 minutes. Brett goes after a taller ladder, he goes up, Kyle SHOVES the ladder over and Brett goes over the top to the floor! Rich is slow to get up, makes a slow climb up, but Brett's back in already and kicks Rich off somehow. Gikaya whip dropkick flip. Brett whip reverse uppercut Rich! Rich whip toss in the air and ANOTHER uppercut! 24 minutes, no end in sight. Rich has Brett going for the Ego Trip neckbreaker, but Brett gets a tornado bulldog out of it! Brett tries to get some motion in his left shoulder, springboard is caught, Rich hits the Ego Trip neckbreaker on the ladder! Rich doesn't try for the belt, he goes after ANOTHER ladder, #3. Kyle says he's gonna end Brett's career! You're gonna KILL him! Kyle sets up two ladders side by side and a table! Brett just rolls out and Kyle is gonna try to piledriver him off the ladder, but Brett fights him and hits the DRAGONFLY OFF THE LADDER THROUGH THE TABLE!!! YOWCH!!! Kyle Rich ain't getting up, Brett slowly gets back in the ring and climbs the ladder to get the belt down and it's OVER! Dennis Devine and Axis come out to check on Rich.
WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Brett Gikaya KO -> (4-3) 29:50 mins. *****
Clear early favorite for match of the year in NGW and man, I fear for both them guys' well being. The cleanup crew comes out again to clear out the mess and we go to intermission.
The New Era - Morton Von Prose & Black Dragon vs. GAW Tag Team Champs Petey & Jessie Clark - Hmmm...GAW vs. NGW here, and curious to see how the Peoria crowd reacts to it. The New Era put "air fresheners" on the Clarks, haha. Pete works the arm of Dragon, but Dragon gets a drop toe hold for two. A shot to the chest by Dragon and Petey wants outta there. Jessie in, and he hits the German suplexes on the New Era, MVP looked like he took a bad bump...eek! Petey back in for a double suplex for two. Pete hits a shoulderblock and tries going up but MVP shakes him off the ropes and hits a full nelson slam! New Era work over Petey until he hits a clothesline to tag Jessie back in, Jessie off the ropes and MVP yanks the top rope and Jessie goes FLYING OUTSIDE! Dragon beats Jessie and MVP with a suicide dive! Toss in the post and toss back in, Dragon struggles to slam him and gets two. Tag MVP, axe off the top and works the arm. Jessie gets a rollup then hits what looks to be the worst Thesz Press ever. Ugh. Tag Pete who gives MVP the old pit stop, double team facebuster. And here comes TripC to distract the ref, Dragon comes in with a kendo stick and blasts Jessie with it, MVP puts on a leglock and Jessie taps. TripC mugs Petey Clark on the outside. Botched spots made this match not play in Peoria. New Era claims this is what cool looks like, no it's what highway robbery looks like.
WINNERS: Morton Von Prose & Black Dragon submission -> 10:35 mins. ½*
NGW Tag Team Championship
(c)Dennis Devine & Axis vs. Stumpy & Kandi Deluxe - Sheesh, odd couple this Devine and Axis are. And they put purple fur on those belts! Stumpy and Deluxe was pretty much forced to tag team after Deluxe slugged the owner of NGW Pedro. Devine flying headscissors on Stumpy! Axis fights Kandi on the outside but Kandi fights him off and gets back in. Devine hits a DDT on Kandi for two, and the heels take turns on Deluxe, hitting a double Russian legsweep for two. Axis hits a drop kick that folds Deluxe in half for two. Axis takes out Stumpy, tag Devine, cartwheel splash and bronco buster on Deluxe. Ugh. He's not X-Pac. Tag Axis, running knee strike, goes up, moonsault misses! Stumpy in, clotheslines, slam on Axis, back body drop. Tag Kandi, set up, Hart Attack, Boston Crab and legdrop double team gets two. Stumpy slams Axis, Kandi charges Devine in the corner, and Devine grabs Deluxe as if he was trying to sunset flip him, but Deluxe just sits on him. They do it again in the other corner, pNut of all people bowls down the ring barrier and shoves Deluxe over for Devine to get the pin. What the heck? Sheesh, used to be pNut didn't care for Stumpy OR Devine.
WINNERS and STILL CHAMPS: Axis & Dennis Devine pin -> 7:45 mins. **
People's Choice Championship
(c)Johnny Justice vs. Ryan Phoenix - Why is JJ still wearing that mask? His face has healed up by now. Usually the PC title is defended under SOME sort of stipulation, but tonight there is no stipulations at all. Weird. Anyway, they test their strength and JJ outpowers him, so they do some chain wrestling. Ryan tries to side suplex him off but JJ holds on, so Ryan drops him on the top rope. Grazing springboard dropkick gets two. JJ with the three amigos and ten successive elbows for two. Flying headscissors JJ. X-Factor Ryan gets two. JJ with the CHOKESLAM gets two. JJ goes topside, Ryan catches him again and hits the STYLES CLASH for three!

Justice shakes hands with Phoenix being a good sport. The New Era run out and attack Justice, Ryan Phoenix just walks to the back doing nothing, Jaxson Pride runs out to make the save.
NGW Heavyweight Championship - Triple Threat Lumberjack Match
(c)Chris Hazard vs. Deacon Hobbs vs. Big Pappa - Hmmm hmmm, this is the first I've seen a lumberjack match under triple threat conditions. Hazard's been looking for his missing title belt for a couple of months now, but it was reported that the belt will show up tonight. Hobbs still has that scar from where he was cut on the neck by Hazard weeks ago. The lumberjacks come out, including the really banged up Brett Gikaya and someone who didn't have a match tonight Vampyr Kaval. Hobbs and Hazard goes after Pappa, but they get shoved off and clotheslined out of the line. The lumberjacks attack Hobbs and Hazard, but they get in and dump Pappa. Sheesh them guys are mugging them! Side suplex on Hazard, Pappa clobbers Kaval. Hobbs gets two on Hazard. These lumberjacks are supposed to put them back in the ring! Hazard points at Pappa with Hobbs staring at Hazard, Hobbs tries to take a swing at Pappa but Pappa clobbers him. Hazard kicks away, pounds on Pappa, whip reverse pickup...TOMBSTONE gets two. Hazard gets dumped, everyone beats the crap outta him. Pappa whip to the corner but eats a boot. Hazard bashes Pride & Kaval's heads together! Hez & Phoenix's heads are bashed. Someone else gets thrown to the post. Geez what is going on here? Pappa escapes the sleeper, Hazard on the top rope and hits a flying elbow for two. LOW BLOW Hazard on Pappa and it's a dumpout, they swarm and kick away. None of the three in the ring have ANY friends whatsoever. Hazard stomps on Hobbs elbow and gets two. Pappa tries to fight them off, Hobbs pounds on Hazard, Hazard clotheslines Hobbs. Hazard gets dumped out and they beat on him. Pappa gets dumped out again after just getting in. Hobbs is going up! All the lumberjacks are together and Hobbs DIVES ON THE PILE! Everyone is down! Carnage! Serves ya right for excessive mugging! Hobbs gets two on Hazard, the lumberjacks take their anger out on Pappa. Hobbs whips Hazard, but he stops, pickup backbreaker! Pappa eyepokes people to escape. Pappa splashes Hazard in the corner! Forearm shot on Hobbs, Hazard with a SPEAR on Pappa! Hobbs and Hazard fight over the cover. Hobbs swing and a miss, Hazard pickup sideslam. Hazard goes up, moonsault MISSED! Past ten minutes. Pickups are blocked, and Robbie the Ref gets NAILED! Uh oh. Hobbs with a rock bottom on Hazard and there's no referee! Someone pull the ref shirt and put it on! Josh Powers the thief comes to the ring and counts two. Hobbs asks if Josh can manage to count to three. Pappa's up and waits, three way brawl, Hobbs is backdropped over the top! Kyle Rich comes out and grabs Pappa! Hazard with the SPEAR! But Pappa dodged him and Rich goes flying to the floor, taking out the rail. Oh boy, Rich may be hurt worse than he was already. Pappa with a spinning rock bottom on Hazard and gets the pin!
WINNER and NEW CHAMP: Big Pappa pin -> 13:20 mins. ***½
The drama isn't over, someone in a suit, apparently the former owner of NGW Mr. Simpson comes out with the title belt! Pedro comes out after him and takes the belt away from him, then gives him an armpit! What's Simpson's deal? Stole the belt cause he's mad Pedro owns the company now? By the way, the lumberjacks are supposed to keep people in the ring, not engage in a beatdown and force the victim to fight their way back in the ring. I dunno what they were doing here.
The Verdict: Well this show varied quite a bit. The must see is definately the ladder match, the triple threat lumberjack as well. Couple of real stinkers mixed in too, but didn't drag the show down that much. So overall, good show.
Thumbs up.

Sheesh, used to be pNut didn't care for Stumpy OR Devine.

Thumbs up.
