The Rap Sheet on FTW 3/11
The Rap Sheet - from the Mad Conservative
Full Throttle Wrestling
3/11/2K6 Roodhouse, IL
So much negative buzz, was it well deserved? And someone shut the water off!
The opinions expressed by the critics of Mad Conservative Crimefighter are not his own, and thus do not reflect his views in any way shape or form. Though he may agree with them once in a while and repeat them, but that's a rarity.
Full Throttle is actually the rebirth of Midwest Powerhouse Wrestling, which closed down last year because the fed owner Chris Powell wanted to move on from the wrestling business. There were other problems, but you can probably get all that from my review of the final MPW show on the dossier. A bit ago, there was buzz from someone who watched a previous FTW show and posted a review, and a very nasty one at that. I did give it a little credience because I've seen really bad shows put on by MPW. However, they said the reviewer was a member of the LWA roster, and thus was extremely biased. So at some point I was gonna catch an FTW show, and this one was held relatively close to home...so I made the decision to go and review it.
It was a gully washer of a ride to Roodhouse. Thunderstorm warning and it was pouring like mad all the way there once I got to Jacksonville. Driving was a bit difficult as I could not unsteam the windows, wipers were failing and visibility was a near washout. At least it was a four-lane road going there, which was opened a year ago, making it a lot easier to travel over. I should say the next day was WORSE, as my hometown was struck by a pair of tornados, and because I had no power at home this rap sheet was delayed until now, as I didn't have free time to work on this elsewhere but home. So for those who have been requesting this repeatedly, here ya go!
I found out some interesting things once I got there about people and things...weird stuff that I can't repeat. Gardner's Archery where the show was held is not actually an archery but a bar, yet they own an actual archery elsewhere in town where bows and arrows are used. This is a low ceiling venue, about as tall as me standing on the second rope.
Live from Gardner's Archery. Attendance was about 75. Your ring announcer is...didn't catch his name.
Melanie Rouge and Chip Leffler come out to chat. Ms. Rouge says the last show was the FTW title tourney and this is the title presentation. Out comes Erebus, with a huge man...it's SCAR without a MASK! So that's what he looks like. Because of how the tourney ended and how they treated her she wants Chip to present the belt. Scar runs his mouth about how he ran through the locker room. Now Erebus runs his mouth...ugh. And here comes The Future! He's wanting to be the first person to challenge Scar for the title. Scar yells at him so you want to find out if you can beat me? Erebus runs his mouth some more about the fire of the underworld coming at him. Melanie gets up and says the match is ON. Scar is MAD...hey Scar, DON'T CROSS THE BOSS!!!
Tony Angel vs. Rick Stone - Dangerous Eric Davis is the referee, who doesn't look anything close to being dangerous, except for his hair. Stone is relatively new, Angel has been at it a while. Matt Maniac signs Oh Canada REALLY SUCKS!!! HA! Angel starts off with the headlock, they trade hammerlocks until Angel drop toe holds Stone and tries a reverse bow and arrow, then a clothesline for two. Stone with a sideslam then drives his knees into the back, suplex two. Slam, splash from the second rope LOW gets two. Snap suplex Angel gets two. BOOT Angel, facelock, Stone up and turns it into a reverse DDT and gets the pin outta nowhere! Didn't expect that to be the finish and Tony can't believe it.
WINNER: Rick Stone pin -> 5:15 mins. *½
Lenny K. w/ Stylin' Kurt Styles vs. Shooter Curtis Payne - Lenny K. is aka Mephisto, and Kurt Styles recently walked away from that embarassment of a fed known as CJTPAAW. Payne works Lenny over hitting the superkick and clothesline sending Lenny running, but it's a sucker move as he pounds and chokes Payne down. Lenny jumps back in and does a baseball slide, but Payne avoids it and throws him in the post. Back in, Payne goes after the leg but Lenny gets in a low blow and sits on him. Kurt takes a cheap shot and Lenny gets two. Spinning neckbreaker gets two. Legdrop gets two. Lenny goes to a sleeper, Payne escapes, KO punch, BOOT. Lenny with a rake and DDT for two. Lenny goes to the second rope, moonsaults but gets nothing. I think he scrapped the ceiling there. Second rope elbow Payne, works the leg some more, shortarm clothesline, spinebuster, sharpshooter...Styles hops on the apron to distract the ref but Payne doesn't release the hold and the ref goes back to record a tapout. Decent match. Payne says some choice words at Scar after the match and he'll win the title himself.
WINNER: Shooter Curtis Payne submission -> 7 mins. **½
It's Sports Entertainment Tonight with Chip Leffler, he makes some ridicious comment about men with sheep that no one gets. Dawn Michelle aka Ivana, is the guest. Chip comments that Dawn never won the MPW women's belt, then goes into higene and cleanliness. Apparently Roodhouse doesn't do any of that, but I shout hey, this may be Roodhouse but it's not that backward. Chip makes another stupid comment about seeing someone in the mens room. I think he's been stuffing his face with too many Frito Lays, seriously. He brings out her main competition, Jaden. Jaden thinks Dawn needs to drop her attitude, and Dawn has never been able to beat her without backup. Chip then turns his attention to Mr. Bigg, who apparently is very anti-women's wrestling. He comes out, and he claims to love women. But he doesn't know how to treat them right! He claims wrestling is a man's sport only. You know something, if he tried doing this same stuff against Daizee Haze and MsChif, they would RIP HIM LIMB FROM LIMB...that's a FACT. Chip thinks Bigg should apologize. Jaden says she's held her own against men and beaten a number of them. Bigg asks if he's gone too far, crowd says yes, so he wants to shake hands with both women. It's a sucker move, and he clotheslines the girls down, and that draws out Damien Blade before he attempts to squash them. He checks on both girls but Xavier Frost comes out all pissed off and shoves Blade. Blade wonders what's all THAT about? He says he'll take care of Bigg later, but issues a challenge for a mixed tag match later...but Dawn has to take a bath and wash off the stink. Frost punks out a referee. Geez, what's HIS problem?
FTW Heavyweight Championship
(c) Scar w/ Erebus vs. The Future - Hmmm...so odd seeing Scar without a mask, but now that I've seen what he really looks like I want him to redon the mask! The Future was formerly known as Brian M. Fantasy, and thus we shall be calling him the Future only from now on. This kid is nearly a seven-footer, and it’s been a while since I’ve had to tilt my head up to chatter with someone. That Erebus guy just won’t shut up, I think he’s still very insecure with himself. Lockup, knee, armbar Scar, he works the arm to the mat and gets two. Future rollup gets two. Scar botches a DDT off a whip, so he does it again for two. Heck, Future would had thrown Scar through the ceiling had he got the backdrop. Clothesline Scar, works the arm and dumps Future out. Erebus with a cane jab, Scar throws Future into the post. Future gets back in and Erebus is complaining about the ref not counting to ten. I yell at him that he couldn’t count to three when HE was a referee; he screams he was the best ref ever. HA! Scar with a slam, goes for the splash and misses widely. Dropkick by Future, clotheslines the corner, and hits a running knee. Scar with a neck snap, and Erebus gets in another caneshot. Future comes back with a KICK WHAM DDT for two. Future goes for something, but it’s blocked, Scar with a version of a DVD or slam taking a chunk out of the ceiling and gets the pin. Boring match and the ceiling hampered things.
WINNER and STILL CHAMP: Scar pin -> 9:50 mins. *½
It’s intermission time, and the posing for pictures with the wrestlers proceeds. I chat with a number of people I hadn’t seen in a while.
“The Pawn” Ivan Strognov vs. The Hollywood Stud – For SOME reason or another, Ivan comes up to me and says he’s looking forward to wrestling me in a match. Ummm…I’m not a wrestler! Stud's gear on the back says "kiss this!" Ivan pounds away on Stud, forward Russian leg sweep and splashes him in the corner. Short arm clothesline Ivan, but Stud clotheslines him back and SLAMS the big man. Stud hits a crossbody of sorts, drops an elbow and hits a standing dropkick! Well I’ve never seen him do that before. Ivan hits the mat with a thud, Stud picks him up barely for a powerslam getting two. Ivan dodges a charge in the corner and Stud flies over the top. Ivan with a DDT on the apron! They brawl outside, Stud rams him in the apron, and the referee counts to ten. Ohhhhh…LAME LAME LAME!!! Match was actually going good before this abrupt cop-out finish. They still brawl on the floor and the rail...and Ivan throws one of the refs into the post! Ivan chases another referee to the back.
NO WINNER: Double countout -> 4:40 mins. *¾
Christian Haze vs. “Da Bomb” Brian James – Haze says he'll be moving on from wrestling soon, as he's got a Christian rock band. Haze works the arm and they chain wrestle, where Haze hits a side suplex and does a headlock takedown. Rollup James gets two. That ref is counting awfully fast. They trade armbars, James clothesline, slam and second rope legdrop gets two. James locks in the camel clutch briefly before going for a suplex, but Haze hits his own, spinebuster gets two. James fires back, corner ram, clothesline, ten punch in the corner, clothesline gets two. I yell at the ref to SLOW DOWN and he's giving me a dirty look. Well he said he was new at this after the show, okay I understand. Russian leg sweep James gets two. Haze with a shot to the gut, clothesline, death valley driver gets two. Haze misses the splash in the corner, James misses the shortarm clothesline, Haze with a side suplex gets the pin as that fast count is quicker than James shooting his shoulder up. Could had gone longer...
WINNER: Christian Haze pin -> 8:10 mins. ***
Mixed Tag Match
Xavier Frost & Dawn Michelle vs. "Custom Made" Damien Blade & Jaden - The gals in front of me are giving Dawn crap. Well the girls start the match, armbar and kicks from Jaden, Russian leg sweep, whip and spinkick, kickdown gets two. Jaden makes a wish, and flips over for two. Clothesline Dawn, does a flip and legdrop, and pulls on the arms while standing on the hair. Frost chokes Jaden on the ropes, but Jaden manages to tag out and Frost is tagged in. Blade teases the test of strength but pokes him instead and hits a clothesline. Whip to the corner and Blade WIPES HIS BOOT on Frost's face. Tag Jaden, she kicks away, Frost knees her, and pushes her back to Blade to tag back in. Clothesline in the corner Frost, Blade chops him, tag Jaden, tag Dawn. Dawn with a slam, dragging by the hair and chops. Jaden comes up with a bulldog, samoan drop. Frost gets a cheapshot, Blade goes after him. Sunset flip Jaden, Frost shortarm clotheslines her, Dawn with a sideslam on Jaden gets the pin.
WINNERS: Dawn Michelle & Xavier Frost pin -> 7:15 mins. **¾
FTW No Limits Championship - Fatal Four-Way Elimination - Hardcore Match
Chico Es Loco vs. Sly vs. Gideon Morbid w/ The Orderly vs. Cory Pillman - They describe this as a double jeopardy match, but it didn't seem to go any different than a fatal four-way. Good lord, what happened to this kid Kev G? He's mutated into a crazed loon and has been stuffed in the Madison County Psyche Ward! Match starts and Gideon goes after Pillman. Cory looks beat up from days ago. CEL and Sly slug it out. Armdrags traded, dropkick CEL, dropkick Sly. Pillman gets a sleeper on Morbid but gets backed into a post! Jawbreaker by Sly, hip toss Gideon on the floor! Pillman with a DDT on Gideon on the floor! Sly with an armbar DDT on CEL! Sly tugs on the arm, Pillman with a dropkick off the apron on Gideon! CEL with an armdrag and bails. Sly after him...toss into the rail! Cory dropkicks Gideon and gets back in, Gideon follows. CEL and Sly circle the ring, Sly apparently is trying to sneak up. Cory with a Thesz Press on Gideon gets two. Cory slugs Gideon but hurts his hand, Gideon suplexes Pillman, chaining three together! Sly trips up someone, Pillman gets Russian leg swept into the rail! Shortarm clothesline Gideon and locks in a submission hold, Pillman taps!
Cory Pillman, you ARE the weakest link! Goodbye! Gideon Morbid beats Pillman by submission at 4:30 mins.
CEL with a SUPERKICK on Sly and gets the pin!
Sly, you ARE the weakest link! Goodbye! Chico Es Loco pins Sly at 4:35 mins.
Slingshot crossbody over the top CEL on Gideon! CEL is whipped to the rail! They're going into the crowd! CEL charges, hops on a chair, off the rail with a body tackle! Backdrop over the rail goes Gideon! Geewhiz! Gideon yells on the mike that there's nothing wrong with the way he looks! Well there's something wrong with the way he's acting! Slam Gideon gets two. SPEAR Gideon gets two. Gideon says it's over and twists CEL's neck until he taps! Sheesh, I remember Tiny Lister doing that as a finisher.
WINNER and NEW CHAMP: Gideon Morbid submission -> 7:15 mins. ***
The backstage area is applauding loudly and this title win should shock most of his critics. Show's over.
The Verdict: Nothing really stood out here, which for a group that calls itself Full Throttle, it seemed to be riding the brakes. However, the numerous complaints I've read about the shows really didn’t pan out. For a seven match show I think they could have easily let the matches go a bit longer than they did, cause not one of them broke the ten minute mark. If they’re worried about finishing the show by a certain time they can just cut the length of intermission or do away with it.
Thumbs leaning up.
